Semi-Pro Movie Trailer

Posted by Allan Ford 7 December, 2007 (0) Comment

The new trailer for Will Farrell’s Semi-Pro is now online. Looks like another generic Will Farrell comedy, which might be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your age range.

Farrell stars as Jackie Moon, the owner-coach-player of the American Basketball Association’s Flint Michigan Tropics, who “rallies his teammates to make their NBA dreams come true.” The film also stars Woody Harrelson, Andre Benjamin, Maura Tierney, and Jackie Earle Haley. McLovin Cast in Year One

Posted by Allan Ford 7 December, 2007 (0) Comment

Christopher Mintz-Plasse will forever be known as McLovin. In the way that Seann William Scott will probably always be referred to as Stiffler. Plasse would probably be better off changing his name officially to McLovin.

Judd Apatow is trying to get Mintz-Plasse some more work in Hollywood, casting the SuperBad star in the 2009 Harold Ramis comedy Year One (no relation to the Frank Miller Batman graphic novel) starring Jack Black and Michael Cera. Oliver Platt, David Cross, Vinnie Jones and Juno Temple are also in final negotiations for the film.

Ramis co-wrote the script with The Office scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. So what is the new movie about? Well… ummm its about the first year of… okay, we don’t have a clue. As it turns out, the studio wants the plot details to be kept under wraps (for now). All we know is it’s a comedy “set in biblical times” and that Platt is in talks to play a platform-shoe-wearing high priest, while Jones is on board to play a head palace guard named Sargon.

With Judd Apatow on such a roll as of late, we have to keep a close eye on all his upcoming projects. And Ramis has directed some of the best comedies of all time, including Caddyshack, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Groundhog Day, and Anaylze This (we’ll try to forget about Bedazzled, Stuart Saves His Family and Multiplicity). With an early Summer 09 release date, this is definitely one to watch out for.

Year One will hit theaters on June 19th 2009.

Nicolas Cage Wants Ghost Rider To Team Up With Spidey, Hit The Bottle In Sequel

Posted by Allan Ford 6 December, 2007 (0) Comment

06-nicolas-cage BEVERLY HILLS, California — Silver Surfer has been seen hangin’ 10 with the Fantastic Four. “Justice League of America” is currently organizing a block party with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and others. In May, “Iron Man” will take time out of his busy schedule to do a fast scene with Nick Fury.

And now Ghost Rider wants in on the action.

“I would love to have Ghost Rider drive onto a ‘Spider-Man’ set; that would be fun,” Nicolas Cage told us over the weekend, insisting that he’s eager to contribute to the cross-pollination of movie superheroes that has become all the rage. “A Marvel team-up? That could happen.”

In February, the A-List Oscar winner stepped into the biker boots and flaming skull of Marvel Comics’ super dark superhero, riding his Hell Cycle all the way to a $52 million opening weekend. Talk of a sequel has surrounded the franchise ever since, and Cage insists that a second movie would free the filmmakers from the chains that left some disappointed in the first flick.

“I would love to do another Ghost Rider,” he said of the character. “I’d make him really dark. Way dark.”

Earlier this year, producer Avi Arad announced plans for “Ghost Rider II” as he stood alongside director Mark Steven Johnson, who’d likely return. Arad has also confirmed plans for additional “Spider-Man” films.

Daniel Craig Says He’s Feeling The ‘Pressure’ Of James Bond Follow-Up

Posted by Allan Ford 6 December, 2007 (0) Comment

Being James Bond has its advantages — aside from getting to drive that Aston Martin. Daniel Craig is now in the fortunate position of being able to snap his fingers to get what he wants, whether it be to chose a director for the next Bond film or to snag a part in another franchise — not that he’s been abusing the privilege or anything.

“Having a sense of humor about it is really key,” Craig said. So when the actor wanted to play a part in the film adaptation of Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” series, he “very cheekily” phoned up one of New Line’s producers, Ileen Maisel, and suggested she make him a lord.

“I wanted to be Lord Asriel,” he said, “because I’m such a big Philip Pullman fan.”

Craig is also a big Marc Forster fan (”The Kite Runner” is “stunning,” he said), and so he helped pick Forster to helm the 22nd Bond film, which began rehearsals last month and starts shooting in Central America later this month. “When you look at Marc’s body of work, there’s just such a diverse look at the world, and I thought, ‘I want to have that,’ ” Craig said. “Marc is very solid. He knows what he wants, and that’s crucially important, because we need to jump off ‘Casino Royale.’ ”

Craig worked with Paul Haggis to develop the script for “Bond 22,” so “it will actually follow on quite closely after the last story. Paul Haggis is someone who can actually take on the story and the character and take it to a different place,” Craig said. “The same rules apply, but the pressure is now on, in a weird way.”
Craig said he didn’t mind the criticism and skepticism surrounding his initial casting as 007. “[W]e knew we had something good to do. The thing is, now we have to turn up with the goods,” he said. “If we don’t, then they were right, and that can’t happen.”

Though Craig has always been a Bond fan, when the opportunity to play him first came along, he was reluctant, based on the script. “The idea of having jokes in Bond isn’t completely wrong,” he said, “but it should be done as tension breakers, like when we’re on the edge of our seats. But not gags, not written gags. I don’t think that’s funny myself.”

Johnny Depp and Michael Mann May Plan Crime Wave

Posted by Allan Ford 4 December, 2007 (0) Comment

04_deep_mann1.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter says that Johnny Depp and Michael Mann will sit down this week to discuss teaming up for a film about the Depression-era crime wave.

Mann has long been interested in mounting a screen adaptation of Brian Burrough’s nonfiction book “Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34″ for Universal.

Mann — who has considered taking the helm of Columbia’s spy thriller Edwin A. Salt but has not committed to that project because he believes it needs a rewrite — has an open slot. And Depp was to have starred in Warner/Initial Entertainment’s Shantaram followed by Warner Independent’s The Rum Diaries, but both of those projects were postponed last month.

The trade says Depp is said to be eyeing the role of bank robber John Dillinger. Along with Mann, Kevin Misher is on board as producer; Robert De Niro and his partner Jane Rosenthal, who originally optioned the book, have been involved as executive producers; and the studio is looking at a March start in Chicago if all the elements come together.
