Edward Norton has left Universal Picture’s ’State of Play’, and the studio in talks for Ben Affleck to replace him. Pitt was replaced by Russell Crowe.

Variety reports Norton’s exit was due to a schedule conflict which was the result of the film’s production start date being changed. The change was caused by Pitt’s departure and the studio’s scramble to get Crowe.

If he signs on for ’State of Play’, Affleck would step into the role of a fast-rising politician who finds himself wrapped up in a murder conspiracy. Crowe has signed to play the journalist investigating the killing who begins a romance with the politician’s wife.

The film is still set to star Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright Penn and Jason Bateman. It is being produced by Andrew Hauptman and Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

Brad Pitt is in negotiations to join Sean Penn in the Terrence Malick flick ’Tree of Life’.

’Tree of Life’ was written by Malick who will also handle directing duties

Pitt (who was replaced by Russell Crowe on Universal Pictures’ ’State of Play’) is in talks to replace Heath Ledger on ’Tree of Life’ – which is set to start production in the spring. Penn will have a supporting role on the film.

VFX used in “I Am Legend”

One of the interesting complaints against the new Will Smith movie, I Am Legend, is how horrible the special effects were, specifically for the vampires. I still haven’t gotten the chance to check out the movie myself, but this has been a common enough complaint.

A recent article in VFX World sheds some light on this. You won’t hear many people praise the movie for the effects work on turning Manhattan into a desolate wasteland and that’s a shame. The effects work, more than 800 shots, were completed by Sony Picutes Imageworks.

What I love about the article is how candid the effects supervisor is about what obviously worked and didn’t during production.
