Jon Favreau Talks ‘Iron Man’

Posted by Allan Ford 27 February, 2008 (0) Comment

While at the Wonder Con 2008 event, director Jon Favreau sat down and talked Iron Man with members of the press and here’s what he had to say about the upcoming adaptation of the famous comic icon.

Iron Man

Iron Man has to attract people who don’t know anything about the comics, or who don’t know anything about the character,” Favreau said. “So we sort of walk everybody through everything that happened. I think we also limit things a bit, make things a little bit more plausible, so that people don’t look at it and say, oh it’s just a comic book movie anyway, anything could happen. And then we also have a cast that is a little bit more broadly appealing, people might give us a chance who wouldn’t normally come to a Marvel-type film. But for the fans, we wanted to have enough stuff happening in there that it seems like we were either reacting to or by making a choice to go against what their expectations might be, based on the comics. So we always said, okay, here’s a suit that was in [the film], how do we tip a hat to the suit that wasn’t in? In the books, Iron Man was in this country, he was in Vietnam — well let’s make it Afghanistan now, that seems consistent.”

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom… Movie Posters

Posted by Allan Ford 26 February, 2008 (0) Comment

Indiana Jones 4

A brand new poster for the upcoming actioner Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has popped up online, and as you will see, it brings the cheese. The poster features Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf very prominently, with Shia holding on to the rapier sword previously seen in Cate Blanchett’s hands.

Based on the most recent trailer and this poster, I am getting a little worried about this fourth installment….

Update: Paramount has confirmed this poster as a FAKE.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Teaser Poster

Posted by Allan Ford 26 February, 2008 (0) Comment

There have been a lot of fake posters and movie images going around lately, so I have no idea if this teaser poster for “Wolverine” is real or not. It has a website URL that leads to the Fox website, if that means anything.

‘Starship Troopers 3: Marauder’ First Movie Trailer!

Posted by Allan Ford 26 February, 2008 (0) Comment

‘Starship Troopers 3: Marauder’When I think of Starship Troopers, I think of Casper Van Dien. When I think of Starship Troopers 2, the only thing that comes to mind is silence, confusion and bewilderment. That’s probably because no one was really aware of the existence of a Starship Troopers 2 (which was actually directed by visual effects wizard Phil Tippett and went straight-to-DVD) until the recent announcement that there would be a third film, titled Starship Troopers: Marauder.

But unlike the second film, which starred Billy Brown (whose most prolific role at that point was as the voice of Rhino in The Wild Thornberrys Movie), Marauder will bring back Johnny Rico…

Starship Troopers: Marauder is being produced by Sony’s Stage 6 films and is directed by Edward Neumeier, who wrote and co-produced the previous two Starship Troopers film

Plot summary: The war against the Bugs continues! Johnny Rico is now a colonel, and called back into action to defeat the bugs.

‘Margot At The Wedding’ - Review

Posted by Fiona 26 February, 2008 (0) Comment

Noah Baumbach’s ‘Margot At The Wedding‘ is an ambitious, tart-tasting exploring some unhappy middle-class lives and picking at the scars of rivalry.

Margot (Nicole Kidman) is a writer who appears to have the best intention with her sister Pauline (Jennifer Jason Leigh) when she agrees to attend her wedding. She arrives with her son and takes an instant dislike to the groom, Malcolm (Jack Black), who is simply not good enough for her sister.

‘Margot At The Wedding’

When Pauline confides that she is pregnant, it is a secret that Margot cannot keep to herself. Her careless talk is the first of several betrayals in the days leading to a wedding that seems doomed from the outset.

‘Margot At The Wedding’ is full of characters you could either love or loathe. Margot is a manipulative monster who cannot see someone else’s happiness without wanting to destroy it or steal it as potential material for her fiction. She is also highly vulnerable and even sympathetic, especially when confronted with her own failings.

‘Margot At The Wedding’

Pauline is the kind of character who should win all our sympathy but often seems her own worst enemy. The reason her sister can hurt her so much comes in the quiet realisation that she might just be speaking the truth.

However, it does have some fine performances and enough sour humour and sharp insights to make it worthwhile.

Director: Noah Baumbach
Screenwriter: Noah Baumbach
Starring: Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jack Black, Ciarin Hinds, John Turturro, Zane Pais
Running time: 92mins
Country: USA
Year: 2007

Paul Haggis Has ‘No Idea’ What ‘Quantum Of Solace’ Means

Posted by Fiona 26 February, 2008 (0) Comment

qos1.jpgDaniel Craig insisted that the oddly-phrased moniker “ties into the plot,” but the Oscar-winning writer of the script, Paul Haggis admitted when was asked for the meaning on the Oscar red carpet Sunday:

‘I have no idea…It’s not my title’.

According to moviesblog.mtv.com Haggis was less-than-enthusiastic about the three-word title that has been attached to his script. When was asked what he thought of it, he just sighed and said: “No comment.”

Haggis said:

I’m not supposed to say anything [about the plot]. I finished it before the strike, and now they’re off shooting it. I haven’t actually heard from them, other than the fact that it’s going very, very well. And Marc’s doing a great job. That’s what I hear.
