Madonna To Remake ‘Casablanca’!?

Posted by Fiona 31 March, 2008 (0) Comment

MadonnaThere are rumours that a ‘Casablanca’ remake could well be on the cards and it could fall in the hands of Madonna!?

According to The Daily Mail, a major Hollywood studio has been approached by the lass to give a modern uptake on what is thought by many as the greatest film ever made and setting the film in modern day Iraq with Madonna taking Ingrid Bergman’s role.

Just a rumour!? Please, say YES!

The source for The Daily Mail has said:

“Madonna is talking about taking the Ingrid Bergman role for herself, even though Bergman was in her 20s when she played Ilsa and Madonna is nearly 50…She wants to update the story and maybe set it in a modern war zone such as Iraq. There is no script yet…Madonna and her people are testing the waters to see if this is the right vehicle for her and if a major studio will get behind the project.”

Better for her to stay with Britney…

Matthew Fox: I don’t think I’ll do television again

Posted by Fiona 31 March, 2008 (0) Comment

Matthew Fox talks to BBC Movies about playing a Secret Service agent in ‘Vantage Point‘, working with the Wachowski brothers on Speed Racer and what life might be like after ‘Lost‘.

Did you have any reservations about being in an ensemble cast rather than being the star after a massive TV show like Lost?

No, I don’t ever think about that at all. The role is never the first way into a project for me. It’s always about the whole project, the entirety of the film and its potential. The director is probably the biggest piece of the pie of all the elements that vaguely come together in some way towards you feeling compelled to pursue the project, or accept an offer. Then the role comes after the director sort of says: “This is how I’d like you to serve the story”.

Matthew Fox

What form did the script take when it was presented to you?

It was one of those reads that was difficult. It was well executed and very original, and has this theme of perspective running though it, which I personally find pretty fascinating. I think about it a lot in my life, just how different things can look to different parties, depending on who they are and where they’re standing and how they want to perceive it. But the actual structure of the script was pretty straight through. It began with the event and then the re-telling of the event through these different perspectives. You also knew that it was the kind of project that post [production] was going to be a very intense experience, because there’s almost an infinite amount of ways that you could end up structuring the film.

I saw the movie about 10 days ago and was really happy with how it all turned out. I think [director] Pete Travis is just a really smart, very dedicated director. I loved the movie he did before, Omagh. I remember the first time meeting him thinking he was just somebody I really wanted to work with and felt that he was going to make a really cool film.

Composer Hans Zimmer Talk About ‘Dark Knight’

Hans Zimmer

Composer Hans Zimmer talked to Bloomberg about working on The Dark Knight score with fellow composer James Newton Howard. Here are several clips from the interview:

Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer was struggling to find the right music to represent the Joker in “The Dark Knight,” the new Batman movie scheduled for release this summer.

Zimmer, who wrote the scores for “The Lion King,” “Gladiator” and more than 100 other films, had already composed a two-note signature for the fiendish character, played by the late Heath Ledger. But he wanted to expand that sound to symbolize the Joker’s penchant for anarchy.

I’ve been sitting here all night trying to find out what else to do with those two notes,” Zimmer said during an interview last month at his Santa Monica, California, studio.

Zimmer, who collaborated on the score with James Newton Howard, said Ledger’s death from an accidental drug overdose in January wouldn’t change his musical approach to the Joker. The composer said the best tribute would be an accurate reflection of Ledger’s portrayal.

The worst thing I can do is stray from that course and not be rigorous about his performance,” the tall, balding composer said in a German accent that reflects his native country.

‘Street Kings’ Movie Stills

‘Street Kings’ Movie Stills

20th Century Fox
has provided new scene pictures to cop thriller Street Kings, in which the Matrix star Keanu Reeves the leading role of detective Tom Ludlow plays…

Two guys who really know crime dramas and LA, making a movie about police corruption in LA. Sounds like a sure formula for success. Ayer and Ellroy took a brilliant script, small budget and questionable actors to create a masterpiece. These types of movies usually do not make that much money since it is not a movie the entire family can attend.

Yet, they will still make a profit and more importantly actually turn out to be extremely entertaining and thought provoking. Chances are that you will not be seeing anything new here, but you will still get an old formula done in an extremely entertaining way. And if you hate Keanu, maybe this movie will change your mind. If nothing else, it will be worth the price of admission!

21The caper drama ‘21‘, in which card-counting MIT eggheads look to break the bank at a Vegas casino, topped the weekend box office with a $23.7 million haul. Placing second was Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, which with $17.4 mil brought its total-to-date to $117.2 million.Rounding out the weekend’s top five were Superhero Movie (opening with $9.5 mil), Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns ($7.8 mil) and Drillbit Taylor ($5.8 mil).

Among other new arrivals, Stop-Loss’ attempt to soft-pedal its Iraq war theme via The O.C.-like marketing was for naught, as it grossed a mere $4.5 mil, landing it at No. 8
