Mary, Queen of Scots was forced to abdicate in 1567, while a prisoner of her rebellious Lords, in Lochleven Castle; an abdication which she immediately repudiated, on her escape in 1568.

Her son became James VI of Scotland, as a child, in 1567, as a resu;t of his mother’s enforced abdication.

Mary, Queen of Scots was crowned Queen of Scots only six days after her birth; and she remained Queen until her death, on 8th February, 1587.
