Deadline Hollywood Daily’s Nikki Finke is reporting that 20th Century Fox has bested five other studios in a bidding war to distribute independently-financed Robert Rodriguez‘ “Machete,” an expansion of the fake trailer that he created for Quentin Tarantino and his experimental film “Grindhouse”
The story centres on an ex-Federale who launches a brutal rampage of revenge against his former boss after being betrayed by the organization who hired him.
Danny Trejo stars in the title role, accompanied by a number of big stars including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Steven Segal, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Rose McGowan and Tom Savini.
Rodriguez wrote and produced the movie, and directed it alongside Ethan Maniquis.
“Machete” hits US theaters on April 16, 2010.
