“Revolutionary Road”

Posted by Fiona 18 November, 2008 (0) Comment

Directed by Sam Mendes (Academy Award winner “American Beauty“), from a screenplay by Justin Haythe, “Revolutionary Road” stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet and features an accomplished supporting cast including Academy Award winner Kathy Bates, Kathryn Hahn, Michael Shannon and David Harbour.

Adapted from Richard Yates‘ (1926-1992) first novel, “Revolutionary Road” is an incisive portrait of an American marriage seen through the eyes of Frank (three-time Academy Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio) and April (five-time Academy Award nominee Kate Winslet) Wheeler. Yates’ story of 1950’s America poses a question that has been reverberating through modern relationships ever since: can two people break away from the ordinary without breaking apart?

Frank and April have always seen themselves as special, different, ready and willing to live their lives based on higher ideals. So, as soon as they move into their new house on “Revolutionary Road,” they proudly declare their independence from the suburban inertia that surrounds them and determine never to be trapped by the social confines of their era.

Yet for all their charm, beauty and irreverence, the Wheelers find themselves becoming exactly what they didn’t expect: a good man with a routine job whose nerve has gone missing; a less-than-happy homemaker starving for fulfillment and passion; an American family with lost dreams, like any other.

The photo of Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter for Tim Burton’s 3D twisted adaptation of Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” has hit the net. It looks like a fake or some concept art but still interesting to see.

Actually, this photo comes from Depp fansite Johnny-Depp.org so, maybe you can judge it?

WALL-E Concept Art And BURN-E Short Film

Posted by Fiona 17 November, 2008 (0) Comment

Here’s a new short film from Pixar - BURN-E or Basic Utility Repair Nano Engineer.
The seven and a half minute short film - which is including on the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of WALL-E is directed by Angus MacLane. WALL-E DVD/Blu-ray will be available on November 18th.

CinemaBlend has an interview with BURN-E director Angus MacLane:

Q: WALL-E stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter, Earth class. What does BURN-E stand for?

A.M.: BURN•E stands for: Basic Utility Repair Nano Engineer. I have since heard from some people that it actually be BURN•A because the “E” in WALL•E stands for “Earth-Class” and the “A” would be the appropriate “Axiom-Class”. Now I could argue that maybe BURN•E was a robot on earth that then was installed on the Axiom, but A: I would be lying and B: What is the point? If that is the biggest problem you have with the film, then I have done my job. Now put yourself in my shoes- you have to name this robot. The name BURN-E is funny and breaks the continuity of the film or BURN•A which is more accurate to the feature and is not funny at all. Which would you choose? I thought so. I do love that geeks pick up on this and I am happy to be creating this controversy. I’d probably do the same thing were I not involved.

Q: How hard was it to think of a name that sounded like a robot but was a pun for a human name (Bernie)?

A.M.: His name internally had been “Repair Bot” When I started the short, I envisioned him as being called WELD•R. About two days later Jim Reardon, the head of WALL•E Story handed me a drawing he had done of the word BURN•E burned into metal. After that there was no going back.
