Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar, Clash Of The Titans) is set to star in the big screen adaptation of Radical Publishing’s upcoming comic “The Last Days Of American Crime“.

The graphic novel was written by Rick Remender and illustrated by Greg Tocchini, described as a mix of heist thriller and sci-fi.

From Radical’s website, here’s the synopsis:

With one week until the end of all crime in the United States, can the last heist in American history be pulled off? In the not-too-distant future as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.

Enter: Graham Brick. A career criminal never quite able to hit the big score, Graham intends to steal one of the charging stations, skip the country, and live off unlimited funds for the rest of his life. But the media has leaked news of the anti-crime signal one week before it was to go live, and now Graham and his team have just a few days to turn the crime of the century into the last crime in American history.

The tension mounts as secrets and double crosses are revealed. While trained killer Kevin Cash goes to retrieve an important component to the heist, his girlfriend Shelby seduces Graham Bricke as they deal with their own set of problems. Left-for-dead gangster Enrique is looking for revenge along with two mysterious cops that are following their every move. With Shelby kidnapped by Enrique’s Mexican gang, can Graham rescue her before time runs out?

Worthington will play the character of Kevin Cash, a safecracker who is enlisted at the last minute in the “last crime in American history” mentioned above. Michael Schwarz and Barry Levine (Splinter, Detroit Rock City) are attached to produce “Last Days Of American Crime”,  Remender will adapt his own property and no word as yet on a director. Will Ferrell and Ewan McGregor on Wednesday headed a Forbes.com list of Hollywood’s most overpaid stars when looking at the financial returns of their movies.

Ferrell tops the list of stars who cost more than their movies do, taking in one dollar for every $3.29 his films make. According to Forbes, “Land of the Lost” cost an estimated $US100 million to make but earned just $US65 million at box offices worldwide for movie studio Universal Pictures. The movie followed a disappointing $US43 million box office for Ferrell’s 2008 outing “Semi-Pro“, and $US128 million for “Step Brothers.”

No. 2 on the overpaid actors list is Ewan McGregor (I Love You Phillip Morris, Angels & Demons, The Men Who Stare at Goats, Amelia), who made a slew of poorly performing movies after playing Obi-Wan Kenobi four years ago in “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith.” McGregor’s films earned $3.75 per dollar he was paid.

Fandral the Dashing (Stuart Townsend): is a warrior of Asgard and an adventurer. He is an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. His bravery and optimism often puts the group in highly disadvantageous positions; as perennially pointed out by the gloomy Hogun. Fandral considers himself the consummate ladies’ man and is often depicted with a bevy of young ladies. Hogun the Grim (Tadanobu Asano): The only thing known about his past is that he’s not an Aesir like most of the Asgardians. Also, his unnamed homeland was conquered long ago by Mogul of the Mystic Mountain, who slew Hogun’s forebears and laid waste to the land. He is primarily characterized by his brusque, taciturn, and often short-tempered demeanor. He is the brooding pessimist of the group, as opposed to Volstagg’s irrepressible good humor and Fandral’s brash heroism. He is a fierce and unrelenting warrior, a collector of weaponry and often the voice of reason for the Warriors Three.

Volstagg the Valiant (Ray Stevenson): His origin beyond being a member of the Asgardian race, a warrior and adventurer, and a friend of Thor has not been revealed. Volstagg is fairly advanced in age for an Asgardian, and it has been suggested that he was a highly respected and feared warrior in his prime.

The script was written by Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz & Ashley Miller.This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth

“Thor”, to be directed by Kenneth Branagh, will start production in January in Los Angeles and opens May 20th, 2011.

Thor, Warriors three

Courteney Cox (Cougar Town, Friends) is excited about her return to the “Scream 4.”

Speaking to The Associated Press, Cox suggested that her character Gale Weathers and partner Deputy Dewey would probably still be living in the town where the original murders took place.

“They’re probably back living in Woodsboro,” Cox said referring to the small California town that was the setting of the first film. “I think that he’s probably still deputy, and I’ve had a lot of kids. I don’t know. I’m probably miserable, and then I’m sure a lot of murdering will happen.”

Original “Scream” writer Kevin Williamson is currently working on the script. He told the New York Post recently that “there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can’t promise anything.

“Scream 4″ will begin production this April with a release sometime in 2010.

Helena Bonham Carter, Jennifer Ehle, Guy Pearce, Derek Jacobi, Timothy Spall and Michael Gambon have all recently joined the project.

Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are already set to headline “The King’s Speech.”

Tom Hooper, who last directed the English football drama “The Damned United” will direct from the script which was written by David Seidler.

The screenplay follows the relationship between King George VI and speech therapist Lionel Logue, who helped the royal lose his stammer and embrace his leadership skills.

Tom Hooper recently started principle photography on movie in England with a planned release in late 2010.

The latest chapter of The Twilight Saga is currently wolfing down 86% of weekly ticket sales on Fandango, the nation’s leading movie ticketing destination.

Thousands of Thursday night midnight showtimes for New Moon are already sold out across the country, from Albany, Georgia to Yuba City, California. Yet New Moon tickets continue to be available. To meet the fan demand, the nation’s top theater owners are regularly posting brand new showtimes on additional screens.

“For many fans, it’s clearly the year’s most anticipated film event,” says Fandango Chief Operating Officer Rick Butler. “Ever since tickets went on sale on August 31, it’s been among our top five weekly ticket-sellers, as New Moon has a strong pull on audiences. We’re seeing a higher-than-usual number of tickets per transaction for this film, suggesting that moviegoers will show up en masse at theaters this weekend with their friends and family.”

In a recent interview with The L.A. Times, producer and author Frank Beddor (There’s Something about Mary), the man behind the concept of a movie based on the board game “Monopoly,” revealed the basic story of the film.

Here is his full explanation of the plot.

“I created a comedic, lovable loser who lives in Manhattan and works at a real estate company and he’s not very good at his job but he’s great at playing Monopoly. And the world record for playing is 70 straight days – over 1,600 hours – and he wanted to try to convince his friends to help him break that world record. They think he is crazy. They kid him about this girl and they’re playing the game and there’s this big fight. And he’s holding a Chance card and after they’ve left he says, ‘Damn, I wanted to use that Chance card,’ and he throws it down. He falls asleep and then he wakes up in the morning and he’s holding the Chance card, and he thinks, ‘That’s odd.’”

“He’s all groggy and he goes down to buy some coffee and he reaches into his pocket and all he has is Monopoly money. All this Monopoly money pours out. He’s confused and embarrassed and the girl reaches across the counter and says, ‘That’s OK.’ And she gives him change in Monopoly money. He walks outside and he’s in this very vibrant place, Monopoly City, and he’s just come out of a Chance Shop. As it goes on, he takes on the evil Parker Brothers in the game of Monolopy. He has to defeat them. It tries to incorporate all the iconic imageries — a sports car pulls up, there’s someone on a horse, someone pushing a wheelbarrow — and rich Uncle Pennybags, you’re going to see him as the maître d’ at the restaurant and he’s the buggy driver and the local eccentric and the doorman at the opera. There’s all these sight gags.”

“Monopoly” movie was going to be made by Academy Award-nominted director Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator). “Corpse Bride”, “Monster House” and “9″ co-writer Pamela Pettler was brought aboard to pen the screenplay.

Harvey Keitel

Along with Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner and Owen Wilson, we have newcomers Jessica Alba, Laura Dern, and now Keitel. He will play a contractor employed by Stiller’s character.

Paul Weitz (In Good Company, American Pie) is directing the new film. Jane Rosenthal and Jay Roach, who directed the first two films in the franchise, are producing. John Hamburg, who co-wrote the first two films, rewrote the original script by Larry Stuckey.

“Little Fockers” is set to be in theatres on July 30, 2010.

Charlie Gordon is a 37 year old man with an IQ of 68 who works as a cleaner…and all he wants in life is to be a genius.

Wanting to improve himself, Charlie attends reading and writing classes taught by Alice Kinnian.

Professor Nemur and Doctor Strauss are looking for a human subject to test out an experimental procedure for increasing intelligence. The procedure has already been successfully carried out on Algernon, a laboratory mouse.

Alice recommends Charlie for the procedure and his motivation to learn make him the prime candidate.

The story has been turned into a feature film several times before, most famously for Ralph Nelson’s 1968’s “Charly.” Cliff Robertson won a best actor Academy Award for his portrayal of the titular character.

The film may be directed by Gabriele Muccino, the man who helmed Smith’s last two projects, “The Pursuit Of Happyness” and “Seven Pounds.”

The Sony Pictures movie will be made through Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Polksy Films. Tracy Nyberg, formerly an assistant of Smith, is also on board as a producer.

Will Smith currently also works on “I Am Legend” prequel and potential sequels to “I, Robot” and “Hancock.”

Matthew Weiner

That will be a romantic comedy titled “You Are Here” that he wrote during his “Sopranos” days.

Jennifer Aniston will lead the cast of Weiner’s directorial debut. “The Hangover” stars Bradley Cooper and Zack Galifianakis are also lined up to star in the movie.

After his work on “The Sopranos” and “Mad Men,” Weiner has secured independent financing for the film.

There’s not much to know about the project at this point.

Production on “You Are Here” is scheduled to begin in 2011.

After “All About Steve” and “Case 39” Bradley Cooper can next be seen in “Valentine’s Day” “The A-Team.”

Cooper and Zack Galifianakis will star together again in “The Hangover” sequel in May 2011.

Galifianakis will also star in “Little Fish, Strange Pond,” “Rogue’s Gallery,” “Dinner for Schmucks,” “Due Date” and “It’s Kind of a Funny Story.”

The story is based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The studio is seeking writers for the project.

Wiseman is also attached to the adaptation of graphic novel “Shrapnel” and “Atlantis Rising” but does not have a go picture.

The movie will be directed by David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones (”Moon”) from a script written by Ben Ripley (”The Watch”).

“Source Code” centers on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive a harrowing train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it.

Shooting should start in early 2010.

Gyllenhaal is currently filming Ed Zwick’s “Love and Other Drugs” and will next be seen in Jim Sheridan’s drama “Brothers” alongside Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire and Disney’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.”

Jones is currently writing the screenplay of the upcoming film “Mute,” which he will also direct.

Winona Ryder

Vincent Cassel and Barbara Hershey have also joined previously announced cast members Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.

The movie, set in the world of the New York City Ballet, centers on a talented ballerina (Portman) who is tormented by a rival (Mila Kunis) who might or might not be a figment of the dancer’s imagination.

Natalie Portman stars as Nina, a veteran ballerina who finds herself locked in to a competitive showdown with a rival dancer Mila Kunis (Lilly). Nina is not sure whether her rival is a supernatural apparition or if she is having delusions.

Reports began circulating in August that the script includes a sequence where the two main characters (Nina and Lilly) have “ecstasy-induced hungry aggressive angry sex.”

Ryder will play Beth, a dancer who is coming to the end of her career. All the dancers are aiming to take her place as Odette, the Swan Queen, in the next big ballet: Swan Lake.

Vincent Cassel will be playing ballet director Yevna and Barbara Hershey will play Nina’s mother.

Co-producer of Darren Aronofsky – directed “The Wrestler,” Mark Heyman, has done a rewrite of the original script by John McLaughlin.

The film will soon start production in New York City.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Tomas Alfredson (”Let the Right One In”) will direct the movie from a script by Lucinda Coxon based on David Ebershoff’s international bestseller.

The movie will center on the real life story of Danish painter Einar Wegener who became the first person to go through a sex-change operation to become a woman.

Kidman had already been attached to play Einar, and Paltrow, who replaces a previously-cast Charlize Theron, will play Gerda Gottlieb Wegener Porta, fashion illustrator, who stood by her partner through the sex-change operation.

Einar underwent several operations in Berlin in 1930 and took the name Lili Elbe. She was thought to be intersexual, with both male and female organs found in her body during surgeries.

Lili Elbe died aged 49 in 1931, after complications following a fifth operation in which doctors attempted to transplant a uterus into her body. Elbe had hoped to become a mother, after accepting a proposal of marriage.

“The Danish Girl” is set for release in 2011.
