David Fincher to Direct Cleopatra Starring Angelina Jolie?

Angelina Jolie and David Fincher

Once upon a time, James Cameron was interested in directing Cleopatra biopic that, I’m sure you all remember, comes from producer Scott Rudin. Yeah, that definitely looked great, but unfortunately (or fortunately), Cameron decided that Avatar sequels are priority. Soon, we learned that Paul Greengrass is interested in Cleopatra as well. Not bad, but, Greengrass moved on with his Memphis project. So, as you already guess, today, we have something fresh to share with you! Apparently, David Fincher is next. Or, at least, that’s what Scott Rudin wants. According to Deadline, producer wants to re-team with Fincher on the project which is set to star Angelina Jolie as the Egyptian queen. Only, this time, we’ll have a chance to watch “the first telling of the Cleopatra story from a woman’s perspective. Instead of simply being a seductress, as she was portrayed by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 Joseph L. Mankiewicz-directed film, Cleopatra is also a shrewd politician, strategist and warrior, with sexual charisma to spare.” Perfect role for Angelina Jolie, I’m sure you all agree. Or, as they described it, she “might be the only actress right now with the box office might to get such a large film financed.” If everything works out fine, this project would mark her first film with Fincher. On the other hand, Fincher is definitely busy guy. We all know he’s currently working on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which is, by the way, also produced by Rudin, and he’s also attached to direct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo. What do you think about David Fincher and Cleopatra project? Let us know, and stay tuned!
