Character actor David Paymer recently seen in The Five-Year Engagement has been cast in Paramount’s Jack Ryan opposite Chris Pine, Keira Knightley, Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Costner.
Paymer, known for his ultra-controlled and controlling screen personas this time will portray an American diplomat in the thriller, also directed by Branagh.
Pine plays the Tom Clancy character.
Based on Tom Clancy’s most famous series of novels, featuring CIA analyst Jack Ryan, the story takes place prior to the original Ryan stories in which he is a stockbroker working for a billionaire in Moscow before joining the CIA.
The problem is that said billionaire (Branagh) plans a terrorist attack that will shut down the United States’ economy.
Partially written by Adam Cozad, David Koepp, Anthony Peckham and Steven Zaillian, the fifth title featuring the character is set for release on Christmas 2013.
As for Paymer, has a recurring role as Judge Richard Cuesta on the series The Good Wife.
