One of the most anticipated films of 2013, and perhaps Lars von Trier’s most controversial film yet, Nymphomaniac, has completed shooting and released the first still from the film set.
Graphic sex scenes are expected, although not seen in this image of Charlotte Gainsbourg lying on the ground.
TrustNordisk, who has premiered this mysterious first still from the film has also dropped the phrase, presumably from the film:
My only sin, I believe, is that I always demanded more of the sunset.
The story revolves around a woman named Joe (Gainsbourg), a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, who recounts the story of her life and her erotic adventure from birth to the age of 50 to a charming bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard). Gainsbourg plays the woman, Joe, with Stacy Martin as young Joe.
The two-part film also stars an international ensemble cast including Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Connie Nielsen, Mia Goth, Udo Kier, Jean-Marc Barr, Caroline Goodall, Kate Ashfield, Saskia Reeves, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Hugo Speer, Felicity Gilbert, Michael Pas, Jesper Christensen, Jens Albinus, Nicolas Bro, Cyron Melville, Shanti Roney, Omar Shargawi, Tania Carlin, Severin von Hoensbroech and Peter Gilbert Cotton among the others.
Von Trier is reteaming with Manuel Alberto Claro, the Chilean photographer who shot Melancholia, keeping the distinctive look of that film.
Nymphomaniac is reportedly slated for a May release date in Denmark and Sweden.
