Hugo Writer John Logan Taking Musical JERSEY BOYS to the Screen

Jersey Boys

On stage and screen, John Logan rules — after he has written about ancient Rome (Gladiator), the Empire of Japan during the 1870s (The Last Samurai), and a depression-era 1930s (Hugo), Logan will be focusing his attention to early ’60s New Jersey when the Four Seasons were a favorite band for sure. Jersey Boys is a jukebox musical based on them, which opened on Broadway in 2005 and won four 2006 Tony Awards including Best Musical. GK Films, who produced Logan’s films Rango and Hugo, picked up feature rights to the musical in October 2010 and it’s expected that the project will be produced in partnership with Columbia Pictures. Soon-to-be-movie is about the rise and fall of the Four Seasons and is separated into four sections, each one narrated by a different member of the group with selected songs including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Rag Doll and Oh What a Night. With Mamma Mia already a bit hit on the big screen and one more fellow jukebox musical Rock Of Ages on the way this year, musical shows keep on jumping to the big-screen. Dates for the film have not yet been announced in these early stages. Logan, which play RED received six Tony Awards in 2010, has also written the next James Bond film, Skyfall. Furthermore, he is collaborating with Patti Smith on adapting her best-selling book, Just Kids and he is working on another high-profile movie set to be released in 2012 – Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.
