Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2

Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2? That’s an interesting role for somebody like Jared Harris, guy you probably remember from titles like The Riches, Fringe and his role as Lane Pryce on AMC’s Mad Men. Jared Harris And, he’s also signed co-starring in Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, so, as you see – quite busy actor these days… Harris joins a cast including Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, who are both reprising their roles of Holmes and Watson from Guy Ritchie’s previous installment. Rachel McAdams will return as Irene Adler, but her role will be minimal. Stephen Fry is also in the team, and, as you remember, he was recently confirmed to play Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock’s older brother in the upcoming sequel. Noomi Rapace will play “an unknown female lead”. And now, we have British actor Harris, as the villainous Professor Moriarty, the character that (according to some reports) “is certain to play a larger part in Sherlock Holmes 2 after his brief pseudo-anonymous appearance in the first movie (essentially a dark unrecognizable figure in a carriage).” Let us just remind you that a number of big names had been rumored for the part of Moriarty, including Brad Pitt and Daniel Day Lewis. Sherlock Holmes 2 is due out on December 16, 2011, and production is scheduled to begin later this fall.
