John Hawkes will step into Robert De Niro’s shoes and Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def will fill Samuel L. Jackson’s as well. And all this will take place 15 years before the events of Jackie Brown and follows Ordell and Louis as they team up to kidnap Mickey Dawson, the wife of a corrupt Detroit real estate developer.

Quentin Tarantino wouldn’t be involved with the prequel so Dan Schecther (Supporting Characters) is going to direct the husband who refuses to pay the ransom for his wife’s return, and the ex-cons forced to reconceive their plan, and the angry housewife who uses the duo to get her revenge.

Schecther also wrote a spec script for the film that is just going by the name Switch, an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel, The Switch, which is scheduled to start production in May.

The rapper/actor Bey, who recently had a recurring role on Showtime’s crime drama Dexter, previously appeared in The Italian Job and Something the Lord Made.

Hawkes is last seen with his acclaimed performance in The Surrogate and will also show up this year in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.
