Josh Trank Signs Up for THE RED STAR

The Red Star Comic Comic book series The Red Star by Christian Gossett that first made the jump to the video-game world are getting the film treatment. The Red Star, which was adapted into a well-received and widely distributed PS2 demo has been optioned by Warner Bros. Furthermore, Warner Bros. has set the Chronicle director Josh Trank to develop an adaptation of the graphic novel set in a sci-fi fantasy world described as ‘Mythic (Soviet) Russia’. Previously being rumored to take on Sony’s Fantastic Four remake and Spider-Man spin-off Venom, Trank has now locked a deal for the project which has been in development for years (as a vehicle for Timur Bekmambetov with Matthew Sand writing the script). Producer Neal Moritz (21 Jump Street) will assemble a creative team and begin moving sooner rather than later with Jason Rothenberg providing the screenplay. Here’s the synopsis of volume 1 of The Red Star, ‘The Battle of Kar Dathras Gate’
Over the course of several generations, the once mighty empire known as the United Republics of The Red Star slaughtered millions of it’s own people by the order of a single man. The man was their leader, Imbohl, a mighty sorcerer whose insanity turned his people’s Utopian dreams into a nightmarish scheme driven by the desire to create his own immortality. Haunted by the ghosts of their nation’s tragic past, the Heroes of the Red Star discover the true nature of their nation’s struggle, abandon their duties as soldiers of the Red Fleet, and embark upon a quest to liberate their people from Imbohl’s dark legacy. The Battle of Kar Dathra’s Gate is a fictionalization of the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
