Well, the rumors of the past few months are reportedly true: Snow White and the Huntsman star, Kristen Stewart, ‘will not be invited to return if the follow-up goes forward.’
On the other hand, the L.A. Times claiming Universal ‘insists that plans for a second movie centering on the Huntsman character played by Chris Hemsworth are proceeding and that Stewart’s Snow White could still be a character in that film, despite reports that suggested otherwise.’
According to THR the new movie will rather center on Hemsworth’s character of the Huntsman and will exclude Kristen as Snow White. It is also not clear if the original film’s director-slash-Stewart-romancer, Rupert Sanders, will return for this new film, although sources close to the production say he is still attached.
Additionally, screenwriter David Koepp, who had been hired to scribe the continuation of the original film, is reportedly also let go because ‘the project is being transformed into something other than the movie that Koepp had been hired to write.’
Universal rep says that
The studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise.
Sources also tell THR that the original plan was to make two films featuring the Snow White character and a third film spinning off the Huntsman, similar to how Fox’s X-Men series has spun off Wolverine.
The studio is looking for a new writer, and insiders hope to start filming in July when Hemsworth is finished shooting Thor: The Dark World.
