Here’s another rumor for the next big summer movie season because they are better than catnip for the internet: Ewan McGregor is set to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, the role that he held during the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Latino Review is saying that McGregor would reprise his role as a ghosty guide in the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel Star Wars: Episode VII which coincide with their recent rumor that Ian McDiarmid is returning as a Sith Ghost to guide a new apprentice against the Jedi.
However, the guys at LR failed to mention the script is still being developed and every rumor should be prefaced with the fact that scripts change.
The site goes on to give us one more tidbit of information that McGregor also wants a Kenobi standalone film.
Take this with a grain of salt, but it’s certainly worth thinking about. Star Wars: Episode VII is likely to start filming early next year in the UK for a summer 2015 theatrical release.
Alec Guinness originally played Obi-Wan in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
