Oliver Stone To Direct Leonardo DiCaprio in Deep Blue Good-By

John D. MacDonald - Deep Blue Good-byWe already wrote about Leonardo DiCaprio’s  possible next movie J. Edgar Hoover Biopic, but now it seems like he’s signed to play the leading role in an upcoming project Deep Blue Good-By, that will be directed by well-known Oliver Stone. This is an adaptation of the John D. MacDonald mystery novel series that were first published in 1964. So actually, the novel tracks the Florida-based “salvage consultant” as he reluctantly leaves his houseboat to go in search of a treasure hidden by a soldier after World War II. Travis McGee is the shaggy hero of 21 detective novels written by John D. MacDonald and could be the perfect thing to start with for another Fox franchise. The movie will be based on the first book in the series, The Deep Blue Good-by, published in 1964, and of course, Leonardo DiCaprio will be McGee. It sounds like an interesting mistery thing, and since there are rumors that this is one of DiCaprio’s many projects in development as an actor and a producer, we believe this could be successful project indeed. Now let’s look at the official part: Jennifer Davisson Killoran and DiCaprio are producing with Amy Robinson. Peter Chernin is also expected to produce. Dana Stevens (from City of Angels) and Kario Salem (that you remember from The Score) have written the screenplay. So, now the only thing is to wait for more informations about this “detective saga”, especially since both DiCaprio and Stone are quite busy lately. We know that DiCaprio could be the part of the Eastwood’s next movie, while Stone also has Jawbreaker in development at Paramount, and he returns to theaters in September with his sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. It’s nice to know that something like this is finally cooking in the Hollywood kitchen, since you may remember that years ago, Robert Schwentke (Flightplan) was attached to direct the project, and Gary Fleder (Kiss the Girls) was also interested at one point. So, it’s definitely something fresh and fun, and we’re happy to hear this team is going to be in charge!
