Oscar-Winner Freydank to Shoot MACHO MAN

Jochen Alexander Freydank

Let’s talk a little about current German film production. It’s not about legendary director and scriptwriter Werner Herzog, but rather focuses on Jochen Alexander Freydank, who had been internationally recognized and won awards at various film festivals. He is probably best known for his film Toyland (Spielzeugland), which won the Academy Award (OSCAR) for best live action short film in 2009. Now it’s time to make his feature film debut adapting rom-com best-seller Macho Man for Walt Disney Germany. Based on Moritz Netenjakob‘s novel of the same name, the big-screen adaptation will circle around the story of a sensitive German man who attempts to be macho in order to land a sexy Turkish girl. Friedrich Mücke (Friendship!) will star alongside Pegah Ferydoni (Turkish for Beginners). Macho Man is set to start shooting late this spring or early this summer, with Disney Germany planning to release the  film sometime in 2013. Therefore, Freydank joined the group of short-to-feature length filmmakers who earned the opportunity to make a big-budget film including Chris Renaud (2006 animated short No Time for Nuts, he directed Despicable Me as well as it’s awaited sequel out in 2013, and Dr. Suess’ The Lorax, which opens March 2nd, 2012), his Nuts collaborator Mike Thurmeier (recently co-directed Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and is currently working as director with Steve Martino of Horton Hears a Who! on Ice Age: Continental Drif) and Shane Acker (known for directing 9, which is based on his 2005 Academy Award-nominated film of the same name). Not to mention directors of Pixar short to be attached to a Pixar feature (Jan Pinkava, Enrico Casarosa).
