Phillip Noyce to Direct THE GIVER

The Giver

This already sounds interesting! Salt helmer Phillip Noyce is all of the sudden attached to direct an adaptation of Lois Lowry’s children’s book The Giver. It’s not a completely fresh project, but you’ll admit that Noyce definitely sounds like an interesting choice for the whole thing. Especially when we add that previously rumored Jeff Bridges is attached to play the lead! In case you’re not so familiar with Lowry’s book, I will first inform you that The Giver is a fantasy tale set in a colorless dystopian society in which all memory of human history has been erased, emotion does not exist and citizens’ professions are chosen for them. The movie will center on a 12-year-old boy named Jonas, who is assigned to serve as the Receiver of Memories, but soon – he discovers that all is not as it seems. At this moment we have no idea who will come on board to portray that young boy, but we do know that Bridges will play the title role – the most important person in the Community. Vadim Perlman, director of “House of Sand and Fog” was attached to helm this adaptation (when it was set up at Fox and Walden Media), and just for a record – he wrote the original script for the whole thing as well. It’s still unknown if Noyce will be asking for a rewrite, but we guess that now, when The Weinstein Company and Walden Media are behind The Giver, there’s a huge franchise potential. As usual – we’ll keep an eye on this project, so make sure you stay tuned for more updates!
