Robert De Niro In Scorsese’s The Irishman

Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese

It’s really interesting how Martin Scorsese just keeps impressing us all with his new plans. That’s exactly what we wrote, guys, we’re just talking about his plans for the future. But, we’re sure that you’ll be thrilled when you hear the latest news! The Irishman may not be a priority among Scorsese’s upcoming projects, but we’re sure it will continue to attract attention as the long awaited project which will reunite Robert De Niro with Scorsese! Ok, you could now say – it’s just a rumor. But what kind of rumor, when Scorsese confirmed it back in February by saying: “There’s no doubt about that. We’re working on something like that, but it’s from the vantage point of older men looking back, none of this running around stuff.”, and now we had a chance to hear the same thing  from Robert De Niro, hm? Check out what De Niro said: “We have a more ambitious idea, hopefully, to make it a two-part type of film or two films. It’s an idea that came about from Eric Roth to combine these movies using the footage from ‘Paint Houses’ to do another kind of a film that is reminiscent of a kind of ‘8 1/2,’ ‘La Dolce Vita,’ certain kind of biographical, semi-biographical type of Hollywood movie – a director and the actor – based on things Marty and I have experienced and kind of overlapping them.” So, what do we actually know about this one so far? The Irishman will be based on a book called I Heard You Paint Houses, which is a biopic on Frank Sheeran, the notorious mob hitman who apparently carried out more than 25 hits, so no wonder it’s going to be an interesting take on a book that’s about the assassin who supposedly killed Jimmy Hoffa. Obviously, Frank Sheeran is going to be played by De Niro, and what he said is actually some kind of explanation for more personal route, based on the personal filming experiences of Scorsese and De Niro and using the style of the great Italian filmmaker, Federico Fellini (who directed both films that De Niro mentions, 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita). De Niro also said that the second needs to be in some stage of development before the first kicks off and added: “Steve Zaillian wrote the first script, which is terrific. The other part, Eric Roth is supposed to do it. And we’re hoping to move these things together.” We must say that this sound’s absolutely great, but unfortunately it’s unclear when they’ll be reunited because Scorsese is now occupied with The Invention of Hugo Cabret, and is also preparing a Frank Sinatra biopic. One thing’s for sure, we deserved to see them together at least one again, because it’s been 15 years since we had a chance to watch Casino! We’re expecting some new information about The Irishman as soon as possible, so you guys remember to stay tuned!
