Principal Photography begins on Keanu Reeves’ 47 Ronin
Universal Pictures announced today that principal photography begins March 14 on 47 Ronin, the new epic 3D fantasy-adventure inspired by ancient Japan’s most enduring tale. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the 47 Ronin. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors.
47 Ronin is helmed by visionary director Carl Erik Rinsch (The Gift). Inspired by styles as diverse as Miyazaki and Hokusai, Rinsch will bring to life the stunning landscapes and enormous battles that will display the timeless Ronin story to global audiences in a way that’s never been seen before.
Hollywood Trusts First Time Male Directors with Big Budget Films
THR just edited an article’s emphasize on modern trend in Hollywood–hiring first time guys to direct big budget movies. And even more, here is another story about directors and a movement in the business, telling us neither of them are women.
Women are keeping out of the big budget directing business all together. Film Studios won’t trust women directors who haven’t made high-budget feature films but will trust a male who has just made a short and/or a commercial?
Keanu Reeves to Star in 47 Ronin
Keanu Reeves has signed to star in Universal Pictures period film “47 Ronin,” which is based on the true tale of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenged the death of their master in 18th century Japan.
Reeves will play one of the swordsmen; the group and their master are revered in Japan for their revenge attack on December 14, 1702.
Chris Morgan, who co-wrote “Wanted” and penned the upcoming “Fast and Furious” for Universal, is writing the script.
The film will tell a stylized version of the story, mixing fantasy elements of the sort seen in “The Lord of the Rings” films, with gritty battle scenes akin to those in films such as Gladiator.
Keanu Reeves’s new movie, a remake of “The Day The Earth Stood Still,” is released on December 12.
