Cannes 2009: Polytechnique Movie Trailer And Poster
“Polytechnique,” will be featured at the 2009 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, as one of three Canadian films. The Canadian true crime drama – shot in black and white – will be shown in Directors’ Fortnight – out of competition.
The film depicts the Montreal Massacre of 1989, where a young man murdered 14 women at Montreal’s Polytechnique school. It was the deadliest school shooting of the 20th century, and remains to this day the deadliest massacre in Canadian history.
Students were either studying, having a good time or just speaking each other in the cafeteria. In between, a troubled and rejected young man enters the Polytechnique institution in Montreal in search of killing some “feminists”, somewhat responsible for his ruined life…Easily one of the most controversial films in Canadian cinema history.
Here we have the English trailer for the Canadian-Quebec film “Polytechnique”, based on the true story, released by Alliance Vivafilm and Remstar, and directed by Denis Villeneuve from the script by Jacques Davidts. There are two version of the trailer. Both trailers feature no spoken dialogue, and the only difference between the French and English versions is the wording.
“Polytechnique” stars Maxim Gaudette, Sébastien Huberdeau, Karine Vanasse, Evelyne Brochu, Pierre-Yves Cardinal, Jonathan Dubsky, Marina Eva, Nathalie Girard, Pierre-Xavier Martel and Johanne-Marie Tremblay.

62nd Cannes Film Festival To Premiere Zemeckis’ 3D Christmas Carol
Robert Zemeckis‘ 3-D motion capture adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic tale “A Christmas Carol” will be shown on May 18, 2009 at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Disney studio has announced.
“A Christmas Carol” directed by Robert Zemeckis stars Jim Carrey, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn and Gary Oldman.
In the new version of Dickens’s story, Carrey takes on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. Firth will star as Scrooge’s nephew Fred, while Gary Oldman plays Jacob Marley, Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim.
Ebenezer Scrooge (Carrey) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (Gary Oldman) and his cheery nephew (Firth). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it’s too late. “A Christmas Carol” is scheduled to appear at IMAX and conventional theaters on November 6th.
“A Christmas Carol” will be released in IMAX 3-D and conventional cinemas on November 6, 2009.

Cannes 2009 official lineup unveiled
The official selection for the 62nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will run from May 13 to 24, 2009, will be unveiled on April 23, 2009 at the traditional press conference. Fest director Thierry Fremaux and his selection committee still have numerous films to watch. Fremaux prefers to keep his options open to a certain extent until he’s seen everything, leaving anxious filmmakers, distribs and sales companies in the dark until the final bell. If you saw Barry Levinson’s “What Just Happened” you know how they feel now.
The news are coming and by now we know that the fest will have movies from top international filmmakers as directors including Ang Lee, Jane Campion, Michael Haneke, Quentin Tarantino, Ken Loach, Pedro Almodovar, Bong Joon-ho, Marco Bellocchio, Lars von Trier and Johnnie To among others.
At the moment it’s been confirmed that Disney Pixar’s “Up” directed by Pete Docter will open Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday May 13th, 2009 and we know French actress Isabelle Huppert will head the jury at this year’s Festival de Cannes.
It’s also been confirmed Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” will have its world premiere during the prestigious French film festival. “Inglorious Bastards” will be “in competition.”
Fest toppers saw Ang Lee’s “Taking Woodstock,” and the movie was offered an immediate invitation to screen in Cannes.
Longtime Ang Lee collaborator, James Schamus, wrote the script based on a book by Elliot Tiber with Tom Monte and the film stars Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Paul Dano, Kelli Garner, Demetri Martin, Imelda Staunton, Henry Goodman, Jonathan Groff, Emile Hirsch, Eugene Levy… Set in 1969, the film is described by Focus as the story of a man, “who inadvertently played a pivotal role in making the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival into the famed happening it was.” Focus is planning an August release for the movie.
If Ang Lee’s movie is on the Cannes roster, it is widely expected to join opening night film “Up” from Pixar, Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds,” Pedro Almodovar’s “Los Abrazos rotos,” and Lars Von Trier’s “Antichrist,” a horror drama with Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg as a couple who retreat to a secluded forest cabin after the death of their son.
Francis Ford Coppola won’t be bringing his new film, Argentine family drama “Tetro,” with Vincent Gallo to next month’s Cannes Film Festival, declining an offer to screen his film out of competition. Coppola said, “While I very much appreciate the invitation, this is an independent film, self-financed and self released, and I felt that being invited for a non-competition gala screening wasn’t true to the personal and independent nature of this film.” He will instead debut the movie at the Seattle International Film Festival on June 10th, 2009.

Cannes Film Festival 2009 To Celebrate Fellini’s “La dolce vita”
UPDATE May 24, 2009 – Cannes 2009 Winners
This year’s Cannes Film Festival will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Golden Palm (Palm d’Or) Winner Federico Fellini’s “La dolce vita” with the world premiere of a documentary about the making of this classic movie.
Titled “We Who Made “La dolce vita” (”Noi che abbiamo fatto ‘La dolce vita‘) the tribute is directed by Gianfranco Mingozzi who was Fellini’s a.d. on the film “La dolce vita.”
The documentary unspools interviews with Anita Ekberg (Sylvia) who bathed in the Trevi Fountain in the movie, Yvonne Furneaux (Emma), who plays protag Marcello Mastroianni’s (Marcello Rubini) suicidal girlfriend and with Anouk Aimée (Maddalena), who plays his lover.
It also features commentary from Rome paparazzi of that time from whom Fellini drew inspiration.
“The film was a great adventure for everyone, and the documentary captures that spirit,” said Fellini Foundation topper Vittorio Boarini.
Federico Fellini directed “La dolce vita” and worked on the script with Ennio Flaiano. “The Sweet Life,” shot in 1959 and premiered in Cannes in 1960 won Golden Palm 50 years ago.
