2012 Academy Awards Nominations Officially Announced

This morning’s announcement of the 84th Academy Award nominations, announced by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak and Academy member and Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence, put Martin Scorsese’s 3-D children’s fantasy Hugo, a vibrant film-history lesson and train-station adventure a top a nine-movie best-picture field with eleven nods.

Right behind it, with ten, was The Artist, a silent comedy-drama that recreates Old Hollywood, about a silent-film actor fretting at the dawn of talking movies.

Some say he doesn’t want to be found. Others say he died ten years ago. But we all know that’s bullshit and that Billy Crystal will indeed host this years Academy Awards!

So, here we are to share the official trailer of the 84th Academy Awards which will air live Sunday, February 26th on ABC!

I’m definitely excited about the whole thing, simply because with Crystal – there’s almost 0% of chance for things to go wrong (like they did last year).

Production Officially Starts on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit; Plus Two New Images and the Official Plot

Production has started in Wellington, New Zealand, on The Hobbit, director Peter Jackson’s two $500 million film version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s widely read masterpiece.

The Hobbit is set in Middle-earth 60 years before Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, which Jackson and his team developed for the big screen in the blockbuster trilogy that closed with the Oscar-winning The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Both films, with screenplays by Fran Walsh, Guillermo del Toro, Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson, will be shot in digital 3D using the Epic camera and latest stereo technology. Filming will go on at Stone Street Studios, Wellington, and on location around New Zealand.

Hugh Jackman Turned Down Oscar Hosting Again

Hugh Jackman had to turned down an offer to host this year’s Academy Awards for a second time due to scheduling conflicts.

The Australian actor hosted the Oscars in 2009 but he turned down a similar offer last year, because the actor said he didn’t want to host two years in a row, leaving the job to Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

So, now we know that his movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 is scheduled to begin filming in late February in both New York and Tokyo, Japan, right around the time of the Oscars, so Academy bosses have been left disappointed again after seeking out Jackman’s talents for the 2011 show.

And now Jackman’s out. So who should take his place?

Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Sean Penn will all present Oscars at this year’s ceremony.

Traditionally, the acting winners from the previous year return to hand out trophies of their own.

They will be among the many presenters at this year’s 82nd annual Academy Awards.

The trio – Cruz, Winslet, Penn – were chosen because they won awards in the acting categories last year.

James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow in Race for Oscars and Green Globes

James Cameron has been cleaning up at the movie award ceremonies this year winning Best Director and Best Motion Picture at the Golden Globe Awards and receiving a stellar nine Oscar nominations for the March Academy Awards. He has also received seven nominations for the Green Globe Film Awards with Best Picture, Best Action Film, Best Science Fiction Film, Best Director, Best Music/Song in a Film, 10 Best Pictures of the Decade, and 10 Best Filmmakers of the Decade.

The highly celebrated Canadian film director, producer, screenwriter, editor and inventor has been competing with his former wife Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker) who took the Best Director Award at the 2010 Directors Guild of America Awards and Producers Guild Awards. Bigelow tied Cameron with nine Oscar nominations this year, and the Green Globes may give Cameron the upper hand in the award race as Bigelow only received one Green Globe nomination for Best Picture, as opposed to Cameron’s seven.

Complete list of 82nd Annual Academy Award nominations announced.

Anne Hathaway announced the nominees this morning at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

As expected, there was lots of love for “Avatar” — the film is up in a total of nine categories, as is “The Hurt Locker,” including Best Picture and Best Director nominations for both James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow.

2010 Academy Award Nominations Live Streaming

Tuesday morning the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the nominees for the 82nd annual Academy Awards. The nominations will be announced starting at 5:30am PST on the west coast (8:38 a.m. EST) with Anne Hathaway and Academy President Tom Sherak announcing all the nominees.

One major difference this year will be the addition of five more contenders for the Best Picture award. Instead of the usual five nominees, this year the Academy has decided to nominate ten deserving films. This is the first time since 1943.
