Adam Shankman Talks “Hairspray” Sequel

Director Adam Shankman (Bedtime Stories, Hairspray, Cheaper by the Dozen 2 ) spoke to MTV about the upcoming sequel of 2007 musical comedy “Hairspray 2″ to confirm and deny some of the rumors that have been floating around.

• John Waters has written a crazy treatment for the sequel called “Hairspray 2: White Lipstick.”
• Hairspray director/choreographer Adam Shankman and songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are also set to return
• The story will look at Tracy’s entering the late ’60s era of music, set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and the British invasion. “We’re trying to track, in a comedic way, the historical elements,” Shankman told EW.
• Tracy (Nikki Blonsky) is hated because she’s now famous but doesn’t lose weight.
• Link (Zak Efron) gets a mop-top Beatles hairdo and tries to masquerade himself as a member of the British Invasion in an attempt to remain hip. The hair causes three pimples to spawn on his forehead, which he has “an ongoing dialogue” throughout half the movie. He also somehow accidentally experiments with acid. Shankman later said that Link’s drug storyline probably won’t make it into the final film.
• The new film will include John Travolta’s weight-loss storyline. “It has Edna getting hooked on diet pills.”
• Velma Von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer) won’t return in the new movie. “Not because we didn’t love her, but because we just thought different adversaries [would be necessary]. There’ll be a change in villains.”
• New Line/Warner Bros has yet to official announce any actors/actresses for the sequel, but they have said that they hope to keep most of the original cast.
• The film will hit theaters in mid-July 2010

Bedtime Stories Extended Trailer

Walt Disney Pictures has released a new 3-minute trailer for Adam Shankman’s upcoming family comedy “Bedtime Stories.”

Adam Sandler plays Skeeter Bronson, a hotel handyman whose life is changed forever when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true. He attempts to take advantage of the phenomenon, incorporating his own aspirations into one outlandish tale after another, but it’s the kids’ unexpected contributions that turn Skeeter’s life upside down.

“Bedtime Stories” is directed by Adam Shankman (The Wedding Planner, The Pacifier, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and Hairspray). The script was written by Disney newcomer Matt Lopez, who also wrote the script for their upcoming remake of “Race to Witch Mountain”. It is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas (December 25th).
