Alec Baldwin Will NOT Star in Rock of Ages

By Fiona | May 11, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Alec BaldwinWhat a shame! Alec Baldwin will not star in the upcoming Rock of Ages musical, and I’m here to write about this project once again (unfortunately)!

Lucky Baldwin, he saved himself from playing Dennis Dupree, the owner of the Bourbon Room, where much of the action takes place.

Ok, maybe I’m just not a musical-fan, but I do admit that director Adam Shankman still has quite interesting cast on board…

So far the project stars Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, the arrogant and charming star at the top of his career. Julianne Hough stars as the leading female role, Sherrie “the girl who comes to Los Angeles looking for the dream.”

Mary J. Blige will play character named Justice, while Paul Giamatti was cast as the manager of Stacee Jax and his rock band, Diego Gonzalez Boneta will star as Drew Boley, a guitarist and singer described as the nicest aspiring rocker you’ll find in the Bourbon Room.

Malin AkermanMalin Akerman is quite busy lady these days, indeed. We already wrote about her involvement in the upcoming Medallion project where she’s set to star next to Nicolas Cage, and today, we’re here to add her name to the upcoming Rock Of Ages musical!

As you know from our previous reports, this project comes from Adam Shankman and already has some great cast on board!

Rock Of Ages is set in the 1980s and filled with rock music from that decade (classic ’80s tunes by Styx, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison and Whitesnake).

So far the project stars Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, the arrogant and charming star at the top of his career. Julianne Hough stars as the leading female role, Sherrie, character that Shankman described this way: “she’s the lead, she’s the girl who comes to Los Angeles looking for the dream.”

Mary J. Blige will play character named Justice, while Alec Boldwin is set to star as Dennis. Paul Giamatti was cast as the manager of Stacee Jax and his rock band, Diego Gonzalez Boneta will star as Drew Boley, a guitarist and singer described as the nicest aspiring rocker you’ll find in the Bourbon Room and Catherine Zeta-Jones is on board to play a villain.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Rock of Ages is getting bigger! We just learned that lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones is going to be the part of this project as well. Sounds good? Why not?

So we’re interested to see this Oscar winner actress next to previously reported Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Julianne Hough and Diego Gonzalez Boneta in the upcoming Adam Shankman‘s project that:

“…tells the story, replete with hair-band music, of a small-town girl who comes to Hollywood for the 1980s music scene and is nearly destroyed by it. Although she falls for a budding musician named Drew, she also catches the eye of Stacee Jaxx, an arrogant rocker at the height of his career, ends up as a stripper in a club run by Blige but also finds true love at the end.”

Directors and Producers Write Open Letter Protesting Premium VOD

By Fiona | Apr 21, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Universal, Sony, Warner Bros, 20 Century Fox

From time to time directors and producers from all over the world sit down and write an open letter. When was the last time that actually happened? I have no idea, but I do know that right now there’s an open letter all over the internet that comes straight from 23 leading directors and producers, and that list includes James Cameron, Kathryn Bigelow, Michael Bay, Guillermo del Toro, Peter Jackson, Michael Mann, Gore Verbinski and for the full list check out the rest of this report.

First of all let me tell you that all of them have signed an open letter opposing a pricy new premium VOD service that puts movies from Warner Bros., Sony, Universal and 20th Century Fox in homes only 60 days after a film’s theatrical release.

Here’s what they all had to say in a letter:

“We are the artists and business professionals who help make the movie business great. We produce and direct movies. We work on the business deals that help get movies made. At the end of the day, we are also simply big movie fans.

Lately, there’s been a lot of talk by leaders at some major studios and cable companies about early-to-the-home “premium video-on-demand.” In this proposed distribution model, new movies can be shown in homes while these same films are still in their theatrical run. In this scenario, those who own televisions with an HDMI input would be able to order a film through their cable system or an Internet provider as a digital rental. Terms and timing have yet to be made concrete, but there has been talk of windows of 60 days after theatrical release at a price of $30.
