New Terminator 4 Concept Art

Posted by Allan Ford 11 November, 2008 (0) Comment

iO9 has posted a few Martin Laing’s concept art images from the new McGTerminator Salvation” (Terminator 4) movie, which is set for release on May 22, 2009.

The leaked featurette for Terminator Salvation mentioned that new film takes place before Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character goes into the past in James Cameron’s “Terminator.” Thus we see an older model of Arnold’s T-800, which is the T-600. We also get a look at the Harvester, a robot that is by far the largest that we have seen.

Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. More “Star Trek” Images Revealed

Posted by Allan Ford 28 October, 2008 (0) Comment

The upcoming issue of Empire magazine features a brand new Kirk and Spock cover with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto and some more images of the new crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

In addition to the photos, Empire also talks to director J.J. Abrams, who comes clean about one of his major obstacles on the film, the nature of which might surprise you:

“For me, the costumes were a microcosm of the entire project, which was how to take something that’s kind of silly and make it feel real…How do you make legitimate the pointy ears and the bowl haircut? It’s ridiculous and as potentially cliched as it gets. How do you watch Galaxy Quest and then go make a Star Trek movie?”

The film is directed by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Mission: Impossible III) and is written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (The Island, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), also stars Eric Bana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Winona Ryder, Bruce Greenwood, Rachel Nichols, Jennifer Morrison, Clifton Collins Jr. and Tyler Perry, Read the rest of this entry

Star Trek Plot Details

Posted by Allan Ford 19 October, 2008 (0) Comment

Entertainment Weekly’s 8-page on J.J. Abrams‘ “Star Trek” cover story is now online including a very detailed look at the synopsis of the upcoming film.

Star Trek’s time-travel plot is set in motion when a Federation starship, the USS Kelvin, is attacked by a vicious Romulan (Eric Bana) desperately seeking one of the film’s heroes. From there, the film then brings Kirk and Spock center stage and tracks the origins of their friendship and how they became officers aboard the Enterprise.

In fact, the movie shows how the whole original series crew came together: McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoë Saldana), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Sulu (John Cho), and Chekov (Anton Yelchin). The adventure stretches from Earth to Vulcan, and yes, it does find a way to have Nimoy appearing in scenes with at least one of the actors on our cover - and maybe both. The storytelling is newbie-friendly, but it slyly assimilates a wide range of Trek arcana, from doomed Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood) to Sulu’s swordsmanship to classic lines like, “I have been, and always shall be, your friend.” More ambitiously, the movie subversively plays with Trek lore - and those who know it. The opening sequence, for example, is an emotionally wrenching passage that culminates with a mythic climax sure to leave zealots howling “Heresy!” But revisionism anxiety is the point. “The movie,” Lindelof says, “is about the act of changing what you know.”
