“Babylon A.D.” Rumors Denied

Posted by Fiona 12 April, 2008 (0) Comment

There’s been many movie rumors these days…

Along with the delay from February 2008 to the last weekend of August, there was talk that a near three-hour cut of the ‘Babylon A.D.‘ existed and would be shown in European theatres, whilst in the US there would only be a cutdown sub-two hour version of the film.

But official sources said:

“Babylon AD has never had a 2hr 40min cut. This rumor came from a joke [Director] Mathieu Kassovitz did in front of some journalists last September…apparently some of them didn’t understand it.
Babylon A.D.

The approximate length of the film is 1hr 40min and this is what has been delivered to our partner FOX. So I can reassure you, FOX is not chopping up the film and cutting 70 mins.”

There will be some differences however between the US domestic version, rated PG-13, and the harder core international versions

The European cut of the film will run at 105 minutes, whilst the US/UK cut was submitted to the UK’s BBFC for classification and was officially pegged at 90 minutes long.

 Vin Diesel in ‘Babylon A.D.’

Vin Diesel’s next movie Babylon A.D. has had its running time drastically chopped by studio 20th Century Fox.

Twitch Film reports that the original cut, which ran 2 hours and 40 minutes, has been slashed to 90 minutes for its UK release.

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has also awarded the film a 12A rating, suggesting that much of the action and violence from the film has been cut.

Babylon A.D. stars Vin Diesel as a mercenary who escorts a woman from post-apocalyptic Russia to New York. The pair find themselves tracked by a cult who want to use the woman to genetically engineer a Messiah.

Michelle Yeoh, Mélanie Thierry, Gérard Depardieu and Charlotte Rampling star in the Mathieu Kassovitz-directed film.

Babylon A.D. is scheduled for release on August 29.
