Posted by Fiona 29 July, 2009 (1) Comment

We haven’t heard anything about “The Wolfman,” horror/action which stars Benicio Del Toro, in a while. For those who wait the movie this isn’t a great news.

Universal has pushed back “The Wolfman” again, this time to February 12th, 2010. This is the fourth time it’s been delayed – from February 13 to April 3 and then November 6, this year.

Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benecio Del Toro Are The Three Stooges

Posted by Allan Ford 25 March, 2009 (1) Comment

The Three Stooges

MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for “The Three Stooges.”

According to Variety, Sean Penn has signed on to play Larry in The Three Stooges remake. The studio is also entering negotiations with Jim Carrey to portray Curly and Benecio del Toro to play Moe.

It was said that Carrey is already prepping for the role and planning to gain 40 pounds to portray Jerome “Curly” Howard. The Farrelly Brothers are directing and the film was said not to be a biopic of the trio, but rather a comedy revolving around the zany antics that Howard, Larry Fine and Moe Howard displayed in the classic short films of the 30s and 40s.

The project was originally set up at Columbia, which produced the 1930s Stooges shorts. C3 Entertainment Inc., which holds the licensing rights to the Stooges brand, then sold the feature rights to Warner Bros. in 2001 for the Farrellys to write and produce the movie. Eventually, Warner Bros. let the rights lapse and MGM’s Mary Parent scooped them up along with the Farrellys’ continuing participation.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly wrote the script, which Bobby has referenced as Dumb, Dumber & Dumbest, and will produce with Bradley Thomas and Charlie Wessler. The Stooges maintain remarkably global brand recognition, and their shorts, films and cartoons are still broadcast in 30 countries.

The studio is looking to start production in the fall for a 2010 release slot.

Day-Lewis And Del Toro To Star In Scorsese’s Silence

Posted by Fiona 2 February, 2009 (0) Comment

Silence - Shusaku EndoDaniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro are negotiating with Martin Scorsese to star in his next movie “Silence.” Gael Garcia Bernal is also in talks to star in Scorsese’s upcoming film.

The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Shusaku Endo which was adapted by Jay Cocks.

The drama is set in the 17th century as two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.

“Silence” would mark the third time that Day-Lewis and Scorsese have worked together. They previously collaborated on 1993’s “The Age Of Innocence” and “Gangs Of New York” from 2002, for which Day-Lewis was nominated for an Oscar. The film would be the first collaboration for Martin Scorsese and Benicio Del Toro.

Scorsese most recently completed an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel “Shutter Island” for Paramount with Leonardo DiCaprio starring.

Production is expected to start later this year in New Zealand.

“Che – The Argentine” Trailer

Posted by Allan Ford 3 December, 2008 (1) Comment

Che: Benicio Del Toro

A trailer for the upcoming Steven Soderbergh‘s “Che” movie (The Argentine), starring Benicio Del Toro as the famous revolutionary, has been released. The previous trailers have been aimed at international markets and not included subtitles, but this one remedies the situation quite nicely with a handsome musical accompaniment.

On November 26, 1956, Fidel Castro sails to Cuba with eighty rebels. One of those rebels is Ernesto Che Guevara, an Argentine doctor who shares a common goal with Fidel Castro – to overthrow the corrupt dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.

Che proves indispensable as a fighter, and quickly grasps the art of guerrilla warfare. As he throws himself into the struggle, Che is embraced by his comrades and the Cuban people. The film tracks Che’s rise in the Cuban Revolution, from doctor to commander to revolutionary hero.

IFC Films is releasing both films together in limited theaters on December 12th, followed by individual theatrical releases for each film on its own starting in early January 2009. Continue Reading…
