Eddie Murphy is Retiring and Not Cast in “Beverly Hills Cop 4″
Eddie Murphy has revealed to ExtraTV that he will be retiring after the release of his latest film “Meet Dave,” which hits theaters on July 11th.
“I have close to 50 movies and it’s like, why am I in the movies?” Murphy told Extra TV, “I’ve done that part now. I’ll go back to the stage and do stand-up.”
Murphy, whose latest film is the upcoming “Meet Dave”, also revealed that at one point plans were put in motion for “Beverly Hills Cop 4“, but that he didn’t want to commit to the project because “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”
The actor said he also wasn’t satisfied with the Cop 3 script, but that they offered him such a large fee to participate that he agreed to take the role: “They said this is how much we’re going to pay you. I said, ‘let’s go shoot it! I don’t care if the script ain’t right.”
He also added that he won’t be involved in the recently announced Beverly Hills Cop IV film because, “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”
Latino Review spoke with Brett Ratner who put his tan smack down on those MTV-bred rumors that “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ would be PG. Evidently this was before Murphy expressed his displeasure with the film’s progress…
“Dont believe everything you read on the internet. Believe me, this is going to be a hard core ‘R’ Beverly Hills Cop. I start shooting next year”
Eddie Murphy to Return in ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4′
Eddie Murphy is to star in ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4′.
The actor approached Paramount Studios with the idea of reprising his role as wise-cracking detective Axel Foley and the project has reportedly been taken on.
‘X-Men‘ director Brett Ratner is to oversee the latest instalment of the hit series, though the search for a writer is still ongoing.
Jerry Bruckheimer – who produced the first three movies – is not involved with the new project, with his duties being taken on by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of ‘Transformers‘ and ‘G.I. Joe‘.
The first ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ film was released in 1984, with the third – and supposedly final – movie coming out in 1994.
The three films collectively grossed $712.9 million.
‘Beverly Hills Cop 4′ is to go into production next year, and a release date of summer 2010 has been pencilled in.
Victoria Beckham famously dubbed Eddie “Beverly Hills c**k” after his treatment of her former Spice Girls bandmate Mel B.
The actor denied he was the father of Mel’s baby daughter, Angel Iris, though DNA tests later proved he was.
