By Fiona | May 8, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Brendan FraserAll of the sudden, Brendan Fraser is more popular than ever! In case you don’t trust us, just type his name on the internet and you’ll see. But why should you waste your time on searching, when FilmoFilia is right here to inform you that Fraser is now attached to star in Nick Hurran‘s upcoming William Tell: 3D project, as well as in the epic historical drama that comes from director Damien Lee, titled Four Kings.

So, let’s start with William Tell: 3D. The film aims to shoot this fall in Romania and Switzerland and already has some interesting names involved in the whole thing, beside Fraser, who’s attached to star as the lead.

Apparently, Anna Paquin is in negotiations to play Tell’s wife, with German star Til Schweiger playing Habsburg king Hermann Gessler. Director Nick Hurran will direct from a script by Scott Reynolds, and here’s a little description of this family action adventure:

“In the legend, Tell just can’t leave well enough alone. The local potentate of the Hapsburg monarch, Hermann Gessler forces Tell to shoot the apple because he refused to bow before Gessler’s hat, erected in a town square.

Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks Signed on to Star in Seconds of Pleasure

By Nick Martin | Mar 16, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Christina Hendricks

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks has boarded Seconds of Pleasure joining Brendan Fraser and Kristin Scott Thomas, alongside Julia Stiles and Matt Dillon.

Seconds of Pleasure has seen a bunch of changes and additions as it sets to go in front of cameras — the earlier attached Neil LaBute is now replaced on the director’s chair with Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas). But it will still develop his screenplay which seems to be based on his book of short stories with the same name. LaBute is also involved in producing the flick.

Seconds of Pleasure is situated mostly on an airplane and follows a series of sketches that connect the lives of the travelers. Seems kind of like Figgis’ experimental Timecode (2000). Hendricks’ character is a wedded woman who ends up getting caught doing something naughty by her husband. Brendan Fraser is signed on to be her spouse, and Julia Stiles, Matt Dillon and Kristen Scott Thomas are also lined up to appear.

Brendan Fraser to Lead in New Comedy Whole Lotta Sole for Terry George

By Nick Martin | Mar 15, 2011 | Movie News (0) Comment

Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser will star in comedic heist picture Whole Lotta Sole, for director Terry George and produced by Jay Russell.

Terry George also wrote the script with Thomas Gallagher, and the plot centers on a young man getting himself into hot water when he tries to rob a fish shop in order to pay off a gambling debt. The heist goes terribly and humorously — the shopkeeper (Fraser) has his own issues, since he’s on the run from his gangster father-in-law. And when the situation quickly gets worse into a hostage situation, that’s when the comedy cranks up. In any case, that’s the plan.

Fraser had a rough 2010 with Extraordinary Measures and Furry Vengeance. Gods and Monsters (1998) proved he can act if he wants to, so maybe we’ll get to see some of that talent again with this comedy. He will next be seen in the rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love alongside Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, and Marisa Tomei, scheduled for release on July 29th.

Extraordinary Measures Review

By Allan Ford | Jan 23, 2010 | Movie Reviews (1) Comment

Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser, Extraordinary Measures

Given its generic title and based-on-true-life plot about a dad who tries to save the lives of his sick children, “Extraordinary Measures” sounds a lot like a TV movie. In a sense, it is. The film, which opens tomorrow and stars Brendan Fraser as the crusading dad and Harrison Ford as a curmudgeonly scientist developing a cure for the rare Pompe disease, was produced by CBS Films, a new production company created by the television network.

Extraordinary Measures is a smart film that doesn’t go for the easy tears or the over dramatic violins. It presents you with an unfortunate situation and tells you a story about a family who fights tooth and nail to make the impossible a reality…read more [ScreenCrave]

Extraordinary Measures offers a bromantic twist as Harrison Ford’s scientific researcher and Brendan Fraser’s desperate father join forces to create a cure for Pompe, a deadly childhood disease. Ford plays a scientist and Fraser a biotech entrepreneur united in their fight against the ticking clock.
The men couldn’t be more different – Dr. Bob Stonehill is a brilliant but miserable medical researcher with few social skills and an ugly temper, and John Crowley is a mild-mannered executive driven by love into action. He believes so strongly in taking action that he manages to push his naturally reserved personality up several notches to raise research funds…read more [M&C]
