Conan

Director Brett Ratner is off the upcoming Conan remake. Joe Gatta, the producer behind the upcoming planned reboot of the “Conan the Barbarian” franchise, tells Empire Magazine that Brett Ratner (”Rush Hour,” “X-Men: The Last Stand”) is no longer attached to the project.

“We’re currently in the process of hiring a director.” For the past six months we were discussing the movie with Brett Ratner, and for more timing issues than anything else we had to part ways with Brett. We all wanted him to do it, believe me; just the timing didn’t work. But you never know what can happen.”

According to CHUD, James McTiegue (V for Vendetta and the upcoming Ninja Assassin) will step into the director’s seat for the film. He is also the protege of the Wachowski brothers, having previously worked as an assistant director on the “Matrix” trilogy.

This news is not surprising, since the Wachowskis were once rumored to take on “Conan.” Producers must have kept a close relationship with the brothers and their team.

Production on the film hopes to get underway on August 24th in Bulgaria.

This news has been rumored about for the past few months. So, Brett Ratner has indeed been tapped to direct “Conan” for Lionsgate from the script by Howard McCain and Dirk Blackman.

“When I met Howard McCain after the screening of “Outlander,” he told me he’d just been hired with his writing partner to write “Conan” for Lionsgate, and in talking with him, I could tell the material was in the right hands. He genuinely adores the Robert Howard stories, and it seemed like he had some big plans for how to structure the film,” AICN’s Moriarty reporting the story but doesn’t cite any sources.

Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand, Red Dragon, Rush Hour) is currently filming one of 12 segments for anthology film ‘New York, I Love You.’
