Robert De Niro reveals future film plans
Robert De Niro has revealed that he is planning two sequels for ”The Good Shepherd,” his CIA drama. The original, which starred Matt Damon as a spy in the Cold War, grossed under $100 million in 2006.
Although the first was not a box office success, De Niro confirmed he is developing ideas for a second and third film.
He would like to make two sequels to CIA Cold War drama ”The Good Shepherd,” one bringing the action forward from 1961 to 1989, the other following its hero, Edward Wilson (Matt Damon), up to the present day.
Robert De Niro received a lifetime achievement award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Friday, where his ”What Just Happened?” opened the festival, and discussed his plans for the future:
His long collaboration with Martin Scorsese which he ascribed to the fact it’s always been “a lot of fun to work” together should produce at least two more films, De Niro said.
He is already working on his next project with Scorsese, which he declined to detail, which should be ready by 2009, he said.
De Niro said he was “superstitious about talking about it.”
Speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival last week, De Niro told that he may begin researching the projects while he is in Europe.
Talking about his co-star, Bruce Willis in his new film ”What Just Happened” he said:
“[He] had a real good sense of humour about himself.”
De Niro added his views to the debate over a possible strike by actors in Hollywood, coming down firmly against any work stoppage. He has opposed strike action over US film and television actors’ pay.
The Screen Actors Guild and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have yet to agree terms, with new media work a particular sticking point, despite a previous contract expiring at the end of last month.
“I do not think it is a good time to be striking,” said De Niro. “All the trade unions are affected by the strike. With the economy as it is at this time, it does not seem to be a great idea.”
‘What Just Happened?’ - 2 Clips - Cannes 2008
“What Just Happened?”, Barry Levinson’s tale of an embattled Hollywood producer, will be the
Cannes Film Festival’s closing night attraction.

The movie, written by Art Linson and based on his memoir about his experiences as a producer, stars Robert De Niro as Ben, whose professional and personal life comes undone during one turbulent week.
In What Just Happened?, De Niro plays a quality producer in crisis mode, handling temperamental co-workers (including Bruce Willis as himself) and demanding higher-ups (including Catherine Keener as a studio boss) while struggling to make sense of his personal life. Robin Wright Penn plays his most recent ex-wife, Sean Penn plays the star of a movie-within-the-movie.
The idea that the movie is too “inside” amuses Levinson.
The film generated strong buzz coming in to January’s Sundance Film Festival but the movie received a mixed critical response and failed to catch fire with distributors, and its rights remain available.
“What I’ve heard is that some studio people view it as a personal attack: You can make fun of writers, directors, actors, but not them.” Levinson said.

Michael Schumacher will not star in biopic F1
German racing driver Michael Schumacher has denied reports that he will play himself in an upcoming biopic.

His agent Willi Weber last week revealed that the former F1 star had been approached to appear in the big screen version of his life story.
However, Schumacher said he does not have space in his schedule to commit to a movie, telling autosport:
“We have had some requests in this direction to film my career, but I’m probably too busy and too active to find time for this. So right now it’s not something I wish to do.”
The 39-year-old retired after the 2006 season and is currently acting as an advisor and test driver for Ferrari.
It was recently reported that Bruce Willis is in line to play commentator Murray Walker in the film.
Bruce Willis to play commentator Walker in F1 biopic
Bruce Willis is allegedly in line to play ‘Formula One‘ commentator Murray Walker in the upcoming biopic of Michael Schumacher.
Walker commentated on F1 for more than 50 years and became renowned for making ridiculous on-air comments that were dubbed “Walkerisms”.
He once famously remarked: “With half the race gone, there is half the race still to go” or ”He is exactly 10 seconds ahead, or more approximately, 9.86 seconds”, ” The lead car is absolutely unique, except for the one behind it, which is identical. ”
Willis has reportedly been earmarked for the Walker role by producers of The Michael Schumacher Story.
Schumacher’s agent Willi Weber is quoted as saying: “Bruce Willis would certainly do Murray justice.”
Walker, 84, admitted he was “shell-shocked” on hearing that Willis might play him on film.
“I had to make sure when looking at the calendar that it was April 25 not April 1,” he said. “I always regarded Bruce Willis as a mirror image of myself, don’t you know… a much younger version though.”
