Captain America Writers to Pen Sequel Script?
Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus, well known team of writers behind Captain America project, have been hired back to pen a sequel for the Marvel‘s upcoming project, Captain America: The First Avenger.
Well, that’s quite logical thing, the writing duo scripted the first film with Joss Whedon who was brought in to do a polish on their draft.
First Avenger is bookended with scenes set in present day, with the end of the movie rumored to involve Cap being frozen in ice. It’s possible that a sequel will pick up from that point and unfold in present day, the same time period as Whedon’s Avengers movie. But, it’s too early to talk about that at the moment.
New Photo of Chris Evans as Captain America
Earlier we got our first glimpse at the new Spider-man costume from Sony’s now-shooting reboot, and now we also have a fresh look at Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America as the title character of Captain America: The First Avenger in costume as the future leader of The Avengers.
Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.
Stanley Tucci Joins Captain America
Captain America: The First Avenger update again! Oscar-nominated actor Stanley Tucci has signed on to star as Dr. Abraham Erskine in the upcoming Marvel Studios project.
The Oscar-nominated actor will play Dr. Abraham Erskine, a German scientist who “in many of the early comics was behind Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America”.
So, we know that Captain America is scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2011, so let’s all remind the synopsis part once again:
“Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army.
However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment…Operation: Rebirth.
Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan in Captain America
Casting update! Neal McDonough is in talks to join the impressive cast of Marvel Studio’s upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger project.
If negotiations work out, McDonough would play Dum Dum Dugan, “an officer of S.H.I.E.L.D.and in the same time, one of the most experienced members of Nick Fury’s team, known for his marksmanship with rifles and for his impressive physique”.
Tommy Lee Jones in Captain America
“I have yet to meet Tommy Lee Jones…. Although I think I have a scene with him, which I’m really looking forward to doing” – that’s exactly what actress Hayley Atwell (or, Peggy Carter in Captain America) said, and that’s why we’re here to spread the rumor!
Tommy Lee Jones has signed on to star in Marvel Studio’s upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger?! Now that’s what we call good news!
So, according to that rumor, Tommy Lee Jones will play General Chester Phillips, the guy in charge of the super soldier program which turned the sickly Steve Rogers, played by Fantastic Four star Chris Evans into Captain America.
Captain America: The First Avenger an upcoming project directed by Joe Johnston, from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, already stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L Jackson and Dominic Cooper and we have no problem with Tommy Lee Jones as well! Dominik Cooper as Howard Stark in Captain America
English actor Dominic Cooper has revealed that he will be playing a young Howard Stark in the upcoming Joe Johnston‘s project The First Avenger: Captain America.
So, this means that Cooper will actually be the third Howard Stark in the Marvel movie universe. And this time, Captain America’s film is set in the 1940s.
So, let’s all remind some details about this project. Iron Man director Jon Favreau confirmed that Howard Stark will be in Captain America, saying:
“Yeah, because he was around then. Captain America takes place during World War II. Howard Stark was starting out during that time, and he was involved with the war effort, much like Howard Hughes.”
Toby Jones as Arnim Zola in Captain America
British actor Toby Jones will play Arnim Zola, the evil scientist and right hand man to The Red Skull in Joe Johnston‘s upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger movie.
So, he’s joining the cast that already includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Hugo Weaving as the film’s villain Red Skull, and British actress Hayley Atwell as the Captain’s World War II girlfriend Peggy Carter.
Well, that’s some nice role for Jones. If you don’t have any idea about who Arnim Zola was, here’s a little description: “a biochemist during World War II who became one of the first human genetic engineers in history after finding papers and equipment used by the offshoot race of humanity, the Deviants. He found a ready home among the Nazi party, who saw his actions as the ability to ensure the existence of a master race.”
Alice Eve or Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter in Captain America
Alice Eve seems to be one of the front-runners for the role along with Hayley Atwell for the role of the Captain America heroine named Peggy Carter.
We already wrote about this cast – madness, that included some well-known names like Keira Knightley and Emily Blunt, so we must say that in this point, nothing is sure, and the only thing we know is that both Eve and Atwell have screen-testing for the second time for the role in London.

Emily Blunt Won’t Play Peggy Carter In Captain America
Emily Blunt has turned down the female love interest part of Peggy Carter in an upcoming Hollywood project that we already talked about The First Avenger: Captain America.
The audition for this role included three British actresses: Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Blunt, but now it’s official, Blunt passed on this role!
As you all know by now, the film has already suffered some casting issues, but the search for the female role continues.
