Christopher Nolan Working On Superman Reboot

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Warner Bros. has brought on Dark Knight director, Christopher Nolan, as a “mentor” a new Superman film.

According to an insider who spoke with the outlet,

“[Producer] Jon Peters is trying to make something happen since he stands to benefit financially. But they [the studio] need to hear a great story that makes sense.”

The next film, which is nicknamed “Superman 3.0” would not follow on from Superman Returns, but could still involve its director Bryan Singer and leading man Brandon Routh.

Deadline explains:

Attorney Marc Toberoff, who keeps suing Warner Bros on behalf of creative rightsholders, warns that, in 2013, the Jerome Siegel heirs along with the estate of co-creator Joe Shuster will own the entire original copyright to Superman — “and neither DC Comics nor Warner Bros will be able to exploit any new Superman works without a license from the Siegels and Shusters”. He’s also pointed out that, if Warner Bros does not start production on a new Superman sequel or reboot by 2011, the Siegels could sue to recover their damages on the grounds that the deal should have contained a clause in which the rights returned to the owners after a given time if no film was in development. The heirs of Siegel have already been awarded half the copyright for Superman. And in 2013 the heirs of co-creator Joe Shuster get the remaining half. After that, neither DC Comics nor Warner Bros will be able to use Superman without a financial agreement with the heirs. There are also stipulations on what parts of the origins story can be used in future Superman movies and which require re-negotiations with the creators’ heirs or estates.

Batman 3 in 2011?

Posted by Allan Ford 26 July, 2009 (4) Comment

Gary Oldman

During the Comic-Con 2009 panel on Friday for “The Book of Eli,” Gary Oldman, the “Dark Knight” star, spoke too soon when he revealed that he will begin filming a new Batman flick (Batman 3) next year that would hit theaters in 2011.

“I think the next Batman is next year. We start shooting next year. You didn’t hear that from me.” he told a fan who asked about when the long-awaited “Dark Knight” follow-up would hit.

He didn’t have anything to say about the involvement of Christian Bale or Christopher Nolan.

According to Reuters, a Warner Bros. spokeswoman declined to comment on what Oldman said about the new movie, which only adds to the suspicion. For all Batman fans there is a good chance that another film is in the works considering the first two movies combined took in nearly $1.4 billion at global box offices.

The Dark Knight Storyman David Goyer On Batman 3 Rumors

Posted by Fiona 7 October, 2008 (1) Comment

Huge succeess for Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” brought in over $919 million (domestic and worldwide performance) for Warner Brothers, but also brought so much speculations and rumors about the (possible) sequel. So, it’s no surprise that everyone is trying to figure out the casting and talking about Batman 3.

We recently wrote about Johnny Depp’s reactions on rumors about his potential The Riddler role in also potential upcoming “The Dark Knight” sequel.

“It seems like it’d be a fun gig for a while, yeah,” Depp denied.

The same thing is with Philip Seymour Hoffman and role of The Penguin. He said that no one from Warner Brothers has given him a call:

“Some friend of mine told me he read that. First I heard of it”

Or that Angelina Jolie will take the role of Catwoman… OR that Cher is lining up for the same role!?

Finally, somebody has something to say:

It’s All B.S.

said “The Dark Knight” Screenwriter David Goyer.

Chris and I haven’t even talked about it. He quite understandably is taking a long, long vacation and wants to purge himself. We have mused here and there but I mean Chris is pretty much a one movie at a time kind of guy. I wish I could tell you more. There really isn’t anything to tell.” said Goyer.

If and when Chris is ready to talk – we’ll talk,” he promised.

So, this means that, for the present, there is nothing to announce about a third Batman movie from Nolan and company. No villains are set. No casting has been set. Nolan hasn’t even officially signed on for the third movie yet. There isn’t anything official.
