“G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” Poster

Film1.nl took a picture at the Cinema EXPO in Amsterdam today of a poster for the new G.I. Joe movie. The poster, featuring Channing Tatum as Duke, reveals that the full title for the movie is G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.

Hasbro has bought the domain name GIJoeRiseofCobra.com, so it is a pretty good indication that it will be the title.

The story revolves around a European-based military unit known as Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity (G.I.J.O.E.), which is a hi-tech, international force of special operatives that takes on an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer.

The Stephen Sommers-directed film, co-starring Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and Christopher Eccleston has started shooting in February, and is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 7th, 2009. G.I. Joe Starts Filming, Destro Re-Casted!

Posted by Allan Ford 12 February, 2008 (0) Comment

G.I. JoeAs the action film “G.I. Joe” starts filming the principal photography on Monday, February 11, it was reported that the villainous character Destro had to be re-casted. IESB reported that the “28 Days Later” star Christopher Eccleston has been signed to replace David Murray for the coveted role.

The replacing of the actors was done because Murray who was originally chosen to depict the character withdrew from the film. Allegedly, the Irish-born actor was forced to do so over visa issues. IESB reported that the actor was not able to obtain a U.S. working visa in time for the production’s start.

About the start of the filming, Hasbro’s President and Chief Executive Alfred J. Verrecchia revealed that the production will start on the scheduled plan on Monday, February 11. To Associated Press, Verrecchia said, “Two Hasbro-related live-action movies are scheduled to be released in 2009 – Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe, based on the Hasbro action figure starts shooting Monday.”

‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ Wins World Cinema Award

Posted by Allan Ford 31 January, 2008 (0) Comment

Pan’s LabyrinthSpanish fantasy film Pan’s Labyrinth has scooped BBC Four’s Pioneer World Cinema Award 2008.

The movie, which has won three Oscars and three BAFTAs, lifted the prize at last night’s ceremony at the BFI Southbank in London.

Director Guillermo del Toro flew from Paris to collect the award from actress Catherine Deneuve.

He said: “I am very humbled by the competition and the nominations so I am very happy to have won this award. I am extremely thankful because world cinema seems to be not only about geography of the world out there, but about charting the world within us.

“Very often people think that the only way to tell the truth is through reality. So I find, by my own experience, irreality is sometimes a better tool to tell the truth.”

The movie was chosen from a shortlist of five by a panel consisting of actor Christopher Eccleston, documentary-maker Nick Broomfield and actress Archie Panjabi.

It beat Oscar-nominated drama The Lives Of Others, as well as The Science Of Sleep, Climates and Syndromes And A Century.
