Mads Mikkelsen

In addition to Iron Man 3, Marvel is also set to start filming another superhero sequel later this year: Thor 2.
Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston are all returning for their roles, and after an extensive director search that saw Patty Jenkins join and subsequently drop out of the project, Game of Thrones mastermind Alan Taylor is to take the helm (oooh, if he’s going to do it half as good as Game of Thrones, I’ll be puking rainbows out of sheer happiness!).

By Sunrider | May 24, 2012 | Movie News (0) Comment

Pacific Rim

After not having much luck with directing The Hobbit (left when he thought the film would be held up forever by lawsuits) and At the Mountains of Madness with Tom Cruise (Universal passed on it in favor of Battleship, can you believe it?!), Guillermo del Toro has finally again wrapped something big, and his first directorial effort since Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

The first official synopsis for his monsters versus robots movie Pacific Rim is out. Summarized, the whole thing is about giant robots piloted by different teams of humans struggling to fight strange monsters funneling out of the sea. This movie is going to be massive (Yes! Live-action anime Mecha!):

The ‘Art’ of Remake

The Three Musketeers (1948)

I was wondering for quite a while now, what is it with all the remakes and recycled stories, given that barely anything new has come out from Hollywood’s ‘oven’ recently (and not-so-recently).

Example – and one that I personally could think of easily – after the original one (speaking about Hollywood – there are even older versions, UK from 1909 or Italian/UK from 1913, for example) in 1914 (a comedy with Earl Talbot), The Three Musketeers has had its number of remakes: the one from 1921 with Douglas Fairbanks (correct me if I’m wrong but I think it was the first one with sound), the one from 1939 with The Ritz Brothers, the one from 1948 (personal favourite, from the ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’) with Gene Kelly and Lana Turner (and magnificent Vincent Price), two TV versions from 1969 and 1973, then the one with Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain and Michael York from 1973 as well, the one from 1993 with Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen

Clash of the Titans Review

Clash of The Titans Wallpaper

Considerably departing from both the original myth and its 1981 cult classic progenitor, Louis Leterrier‘s remake of “Clash of the Titans” proves a disheartening disappointment. Flat and inconsistent, there is considerable effort on display here but no clear sense of where it is all meant to go or what it truly hopes to achieve. The result is a few admirable elements are lost amidst a cacophony of digital set pieces, horrendous scripting, and a grim self-serious tone that’s more laborious than engrossing…read more [DarkHorizons]

Nostalgia is a strange and powerful thing. Take the 1981 adventure epic Clash of the Titans, for example. For years it sat on the shelves, a film of interest only to A) those who’d seen it as children, B) those who want a really silly refresher course on Greek mythology, and C) hardcore movie nerds who worship at the altar of special effects legend Ray Harryhausen. Titans was neither reviled as insipid nor adored like a Jason and the Argonauts (deservedly) is — but Clash of the Titans certainly had its place among the swords & sandals epics… read more [Cinematical]
