Watch The First Four Minutes Of ‘Cloverfield’

There’s been plenty of hype for the new feature film from JJ Abrams, the man behind hit TV series Lost and Alias. And here’s a little taster …

The first trailers for Cloverfield debuted six months ago and were, as you’d expect, fairly cryptic. Rather than climaxing with the name of the film, the screen simply presented a date: “01.18.08″ (for the US release) and a line revealing that Abrams was producing. Since then it has slowly become clear that this is an apocalyptic monster-hits-New York tale, with street-level, Blair Witch-style shaky handheld cameras replacing the usual panoramic helicopter shots of the Big Apple’s destruction.

‘Cloverfield’ – Monster Movie Is a Real Stomach Churner

By Allan Ford | Jan 29, 2008 | Movie News (0) Comment

‘Cloverfield’ movie stillMonster movie fans are finding it difficult to stomach a hit new film.

Cloverfield has gone straight to the top of the box office charts since opening in the US.

But its jerky home-made style has left some watchers suffering from motion sickness.

Orange film critic Mark Appleby confirmed: “Having just watched it, I can vouch for it – I felt as sick as a pig afterwards!”

Cloverfield, made by Lost producer J J Abrams, follows a group of attractive 20-somethings by camcorder as they try to flee death and destruction in Manhattan.

The LA Times quoted one cinema goer as saying: “I got a pretty heinous headache afterwards.”

“I’m really nauseous right now,” admitted another, who vomited. “I wish I could get my money back.”

And online critic James Berardinelli said: “There are those who will be unable to endure nearly 90 minutes. Some will experience motion sickness. Others will just be annoyed and disoriented.”

Cloverfield opens in Britain on Friday.

Cloverfield – Trailers

Cloverfield

According to AICN, Viacom had a screening of Cloverfield with unfinished visual effects. Sadly the “review” is extremely light on details or any information simply saying “Just saw CLOVERFIELD in a small screening in NYC. IT WAS AWESOME!”

So there you go, some person thought Cloverfield was awesome. Hopefully more information from the screening will leak out.
Update: AICN has updated its post with three more “reviews” of the film from three people that saw it. The reviews don’t really reveal much beyond the film point of view is done exclusively through a handheld camera and warns “with easy motion sickness be forewarned.” They also confirm there is one main huge ugly monster and smaller monsters in the film. Overall they where positive about the film but the enthusiasm one expects from a film they might have thoroughly enjoyed isn’t there.
