Matt Damon and Josh Brolin Join Coen Brothers’ True Grit
Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in discussions to join the next Coen brothers film – remake of the 1969 western classic “True Grit.”
Jeff Bridges is already a member of the cast as Marshall “Rooster” Cogburn, originally played by John Wayne who won an Oscar for this role.
The original “True Grit,” based on the Charles Portis novel, tells the story of U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn and another man in uniform tracking the killer of a 14 year-old girl’s father.
The Coens are planning a more faithful adaptation of the novel so the story is told from the point-of-view of the young girl, and not of Rooster Cogburn (Bridges’ character).
Damon will play the Texas Ranger (originally played by Glen Campbell) that works with Cogburn and Brolin will fill the villain part – the murderous man they’re chasing.

New A Serious Man Trailer and Photo
Focus Features just sent us new trailer and photo for the upcoming Coen Brothers dark comedy “A Serious Man.”
Synopsis: “A Serious Man” is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and “F-Troop” is on TV. It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg), a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith (Sari Lennick) that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous colleagues, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed), who seems to her a more substantial person than the feckless Larry. Larry’s unemployable brother Arthur (Richard Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Aaron Wolf) is a discipline problem and a shirker at Hebrew school, and his daughter Sarah (Jessica McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job.
While his wife and Sy Ableman blithely make new domestic arrangements, and his brother becomes more and more of a burden, an anonymous hostile letter-writer is trying to sabotage Larry’s chances for tenure at the university. Also, a graduate student seems to be trying to bribe him for a passing grade while at the same time threatening to sue him for defamation. Plus, the beautiful woman next door torments him by sunbathing nude. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person – a mensch – a serious man?
Both written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (Burn After Reading, No Country For Old Men, Fargo, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?) the film stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Sari Lennick, Richard Kind, Fred Melamed, Aaron Wolff, Jessica McManus and Adam Arkin.
“A Serious Man” will be released in limited theaters on October 2nd, 2009.

Today we’ve got character posters for the major characters in Coen Brothers comedy/drama “Burn After Reading“.

Burn After Reading Review
It doesn’t make a lot of sense to follow up a movie as dark as “No Country for Old Men” with one as downright silly as “Burn After Reading,” which is why it works for the Coen brothers. Joel and Ethan have done this before — they made “Raising Arizona” after “Blood Simple“; “The Big Lebowski” followed “Fargo” — and if there’s one thing these brothers savor, it’s upending their audience’s expectations. The only thing people didn’t like about the almost uniformly beloved “No Country” was the film’s controversial ending and its handling of a sudden off-screen death of one of the main characters. In “Burn After Reading,” they push it farther, refusing to show you the chain of events that set the film’s entire blackmail plot into motion. Continue Reading…
