The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Poster
Set in the present day, director Terry Gilliam’s fantastical morality tale follows the traveling show of the mysterious Dr. Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) — a man who once won a bet with the Devil himself, and possesses the unique ability to guide the imagination of others. Many centuries ago, Dr. Parnassus won immortality in a bet that found the malevolent Mr. Nick (Tom Waits) coming up short. While few would be foolish enough to try their luck against the powers of darkness a second time, Dr. Parnassus did precisely that — this time trading his mortality for youth on the understanding that his firstborn would become the property of Mr. Nick when the child reaches his or her 16th birthday. Flash-forward to the present day, and Dr. Parnassus’ daughter, Valentina (Lily Cole), is about to celebrate her sweet sixteen.

“In my modest opinion these excerpts look amazing. I can’t wait to see Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp in it. Take a look below at Heath Ledger as Tony, Andrew Garfield as Anton, Lily Cole as Valentina and Christopher Plummer as Doctor Parnassus.

Having won a wager with the Devil, he has made two successive deals with Mr. Nick (Tom Waits) over the ages. Granted immortality first and eternal youth next, he once agreed to deliver his first-born to the Devil when he or she reached the age of 16. And now that Valentina (Lily Cole) is only days away from the fatal age, the Devil is already prowling in the vicinity.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Reviews
Heath Ledger’s final performance in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” directed by Terry Gilliam has been presented at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.
Ledger died after completing the real-world portions of the film. Gilliam finished the film with Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell taking Ledger’s role in three trips to make-believe realities. Gilliam’s first thought when Ledger died in New York was to ditch “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” which was only half finished.
“The choice I made was to close the film down,” Gilliam told reporters at the Cannes film festival, where the out-of-competition movie has its world premiere.
“I couldn’t see how we could finish it without Heath because we were in the middle of production. Fortunately, I was surrounded by really good people who insisted that I shouldn’t be such a lazy bastard and I’d better go out and find a way of finishing the film for Heath. That’s what we did.” I started calling friends, Johnny Depp, and he said ‘I’m there’. And I basically was just calling people who knew and loved Heath.
“Everyone in the cast and everyone in the crew was determined that this film would be finished and everybody worked longer, harder and somehow we got through. It was really … people’s love for Heath that propelled this thing forward.”
The movie closes with the dedication: “A film from Heath Ledger and friends.”

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Struggling To Secure Release
“The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus” directed by Terry Gilliam (former Monty Python star), which cost $20m to make was finished in August last year.
But the “fantastic” tale is struggling to find a buyer and secure a US distribution deal.
Despite the huge publicity and big-name cast, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell, negotiations with several prospective commercial partners are ongoing, but no release date has been set.
One concern among buyers may be the film’s complicated synopsis, involving a surreal contest between the 1,000-year-old Dr Parnassus (played by Christopher Plummer) and the devil (known as Mr Nick, and played by Tom Waits). Ledger’s character, Tony, is a mysterious outsider who apparently travels through a dream world.
If Gilliam cannot find a distributor willing to pay the going rate for rights to screen it in cinemas, Heath Ledger’s final film,”The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus” will go straight to DVD.
Keira Knightley New Movie/King Lear Cancelled
Keira Knightley has signed up to appear in Mark Romanek’s sci-fi project “Never Let Me Go.” Knightley will star alongside Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan in the cloning-themed movie.
The story revolves around a trio who grew up in a boarding school with no contact or knowledge of the outside world until they discover they are clones grown for the sole purpose of organ donation.
Alex Garland adapted Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel into the script.
Shooting is expected to begin to London and Norfolk in April. It is Romanek’s first feature since 2002’s “One Hour Photo.”
Knightley also is attached to play Zelda Sayre, author and wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald, in “The Beautiful and the Damned” which will centre on the couple’s troubled relationship. She will also star with Colin Farrell in “London Boulevard,” a crime drama that marks William Monahan’s directing debut and in the Columbia Pictures remake of “My Fair Lady” as the simple Cockney flower girl who is transformed into a lady.
Unfortunately, “King Lear” – the British production of Shakespeare’s tragedy – project announced at last year’s Cannes film festival has been cancelled, despite A-list cast of Keira Knightley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and Anthony Hopkins. Hopkins was due to play the ageing monarch, with Knightley signed up for the role of his youngest daughter, Cordelia. Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Watts were also on the cast list as the king’s disloyal elder daughters, Regan and Goneril.
A spokesperson for the film company said: “Ruby [Films] are no longer doing it – the film will no longer go ahead.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Al Pacino and director Michael Radford will reunite to make their own adaptation of King Lear following their collaboration on “The Merchant Of Venice” in 2004.
Pacino has never played Lear before, on stage nor on screen. Until now, he had always turned down Lear offers on the basis that he wasn’t “ready”. But producer Barry Navidi says that Radford “came up with the most brilliant adaptation and Al and I flipped for it.”
Perfect role for Anthony Hopkins, actually he’s great actor so every role is perfect role for him. But, we’ll see Pacino as King Lear, because he’s ready now!
