CONAN: He’s in his 20s to early 30s, Caucasian, powerfully built, broad-shouldered, sun browned skin lined with scars. Piercing blue eyes and square-cut black mane, tall. He is a savage killer that has matured into the refinement his father tried to teach him when he was young. Conan is very smart, almost inhumanly strong, and very cunning. His entire life, from the moment of his birth, has been shaped by violence. Being the last of his tribe and having to watch his father die a cruel death, he is determined avenge his peoples slaughter by killing all those who led the attack on the Cimmerians, including the all-powerful Khalar Singh. He is prepared to die in order to accomplish his goal. What Conan did not expect, was to find a reason to live.

TAMARA: She is 18 to 24 years old, Caucasian or Middle Eastern, open to all ethnicities; beautiful, studious, correct, a novitiate of a Greek influenced monastery. A master of martial arts, she has been trained to be the Queen’s servant, bodyguard and best friend. She and many other female bodyguards to the queen have been in hiding most of their lives because of the curse of Acheron, which would take the queen’s life to bring almost immortal power to its king. When Khalar Singh, a powerful warlord with ambitions to become the king of Acheron, storms the monastery and captures all of the novitiates, she is separated from Ilira, the one she must protect. With all of her strength and will, Tamara is determined to find and rescue her. She finds herself in league with Conan because of a mutual need to find Khalar Singh. She is not in the least intimidated by Conan’s size or grim demeanor and their alliance eventually blossoms into something that surprises them both.

Conan: Brett Ratner Out, James McTeigue In ?!

Conan

Director Brett Ratner is off the upcoming Conan remake. Joe Gatta, the producer behind the upcoming planned reboot of the “Conan the Barbarian” franchise, tells Empire Magazine that Brett Ratner (”Rush Hour,” “X-Men: The Last Stand”) is no longer attached to the project.

“We’re currently in the process of hiring a director.” For the past six months we were discussing the movie with Brett Ratner, and for more timing issues than anything else we had to part ways with Brett. We all wanted him to do it, believe me; just the timing didn’t work. But you never know what can happen.”

According to CHUD, James McTiegue (V for Vendetta and the upcoming Ninja Assassin) will step into the director’s seat for the film. He is also the protege of the Wachowski brothers, having previously worked as an assistant director on the “Matrix” trilogy.

This news is not surprising, since the Wachowskis were once rumored to take on “Conan.” Producers must have kept a close relationship with the brothers and their team.

Production on the film hopes to get underway on August 24th in Bulgaria.

Brett Ratner To Direct “Conan”?

Posted by Fiona 20 October, 2008 (1) Comment

This news has been rumored about for the past few months. So, Brett Ratner has indeed been tapped to direct “Conan” for Lionsgate from the script by Howard McCain and Dirk Blackman.

“When I met Howard McCain after the screening of “Outlander,” he told me he’d just been hired with his writing partner to write “Conan” for Lionsgate, and in talking with him, I could tell the material was in the right hands. He genuinely adores the Robert Howard stories, and it seemed like he had some big plans for how to structure the film,” AICN’s Moriarty reporting the story but doesn’t cite any sources.

Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain (Outlander) have been hired to redraft the script, the updated remake of sorts of 1982’s Conan The Barbarian.

The movie is a potential resurrection of the classic warrior created by Robert E. Howard, who has appeared in dozens of pulp stories published in the 1930s. In 1982, Oliver Stone and John Milius wrote a bloody adaptation, which Milius also directed, that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. [source: ToxicShock]
