‘Prince Caspian’ Rules at the Box Office

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” dethroned “Iron Man” as ruler at the box office, pulling down $56.6 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Walt Disney’s action sequel, starring Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian, took in less domestically in its opening weekend than “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe,” which sold $65.6 million in North America in its debut weekend in 2005. “Caspian” also raked in $20.7 million overseas.

But Disney expects the PG-rated movie, based on the C.S. Lewis fantasy series, to ride high through the coming Memorial Day weekend. The first “Narnia” tale grossed $745 million worldwide over its theatrical run.

“This is a film that we think is going to play all summer long and it’s got nothing but school holidays in front of it,” said Mark Zoradi, president of the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group.

“Caspian” has a fight on its hand. The most anticipated movie of the summer, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” opens Thursday. The fourth Indy installment, starring Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf, was screened twice Sunday at the Cannes Film Festival, with fans even cheering during the opening credits.

Rounding out the top five at the weekend box office was “Iron Man” at No. 2 with $31.2 million; “What Happens in Vegas” at No. 3 with $13.9 million; “Speed Racer” at No. 4 with $7.6 million; and “Baby Mama” with $4.6 million.

Indiana Jones Site Updates and New Poster… No3 ?!?

Posted by Allan Ford 11 April, 2008 (0) Comment

Click on image to see poster !

There were a few updates at IndianaJones.com this week, with the addition of an “Adventures” page where you can explore all four films. Right now, however, the only clickable installment is Raiders.

There’s also the “Be An Indy Girl” contest, which invites all female fans to submit a video of themselves for a chance to win a trip to NYC to appear on MTV’s TRL with Mr. LaBeouf himself.

Everyone on MySpace and Facebook can befriend the film for a chance to see it early or win an Indy-inspired adventure for two.

Amazon.com has the cover of the soundtrack pictured, along with the track listings. Although I haven’t been entirely spoiler-free on KOTCS, I’m personally not going near the page. “Episode I - Track 15: Qui-Gon’s Noble End” anyone? Exactly. Stay Away!

Finally, Collider.com posted what appears to be a third poster for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. If it’s authentic, it’s interesting to me that they would release something like this after the multi-character design. This solo Indy layout lends itself more to what should have been the first or second teaser. Perhaps it’s an unused design or an international poster? If it’s a fake, well done to the Photoshop wiz that whipped this up! Nice work.

Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford Grew Close on ‘Indiana Jones 4′

Posted by Allan Ford 3 April, 2008 (0) Comment

Steven Spielberg has revealed that his friendship with Harrison Ford was the best part of filming Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.Steven Spielberg and Harrison FordThe pair collaborated on the first three instalments of the franchise but did not grow close until the latest adventure.

Spielberg said they had struck up a friendship on the set of the fourth movie, 17 years after filming Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.

The director told Empire: “We’ve gone off and made other movies which means our paths have not crossed all that often. I’m not the most social guy in the world and neither is Harrison, so we didn’t spend much time together, but we actually became great buddies on this movie.

“More even than on the first three. It’s the best thing that came out of this experience for me.”

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull opens on May 22.

New TV Spot For ‘Indiana Jones 4′

Posted by Allan Ford 30 March, 2008 (0) Comment

A new TV spot is now online for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and it’s moderately superior to last month’s clunky teaser trailer.

The “genius” line between Harrison Ford and a stiff-haired Shia LaBeouf has the kind of smart ass pop that the classic adventure franchise warrants. Also, notice that the scene most snarked at by fanboys in the original trailer, where Indiana Jones fell ass-first into the windshield of a moving vehicle and awkwardly punched out a goon, has been replaced, wisely, by a Steven Spielberg credit. Otherwise, nothing much new here.
