Death Race Prequel in the Works
A prequel toPaul W.S. Anderson‘s “Death Race” remake is in the works at Impact Pictures (Anderson and Jeremy Bolt’s production outfit).
In the first film Jason Statham played a wrongly imprisoned racing champion who competes in several televised brutal prison races to win his freedom.
Tony Giglio (Timber Falls, interview) has been hired to write a script, based on a story by Anderson. Giglio may also direct. The script is said to delve into the past of the driver known as Frankenstein.
“Death Race” Review
If there is one thing that can be said about Jason Statham, it’s that the man is an action star you can tell is hungry for success, willing to put life and limb on the line for your entertainment. And that effort usually shows in the finished product.
Death Race is no exception.
Naysayers have accosted it for being a mindless, video-game-wannabe, T&A parading, testosterone-ridden mess of a film. (If there is one thing I hate, it’s those whose only “critical” talent is stating the super-obvious.)
And indeed, Death Race is every single thing critics have accused it of being. But for those of us capable of discerning exactly what a film is offering, all that means is that the movie delivers on what it promises, no more, no less. A new behind-the-scenes featurette for “Death Race“ has popped up online. The film stars Jason Statham, Joan Allen, Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane, Natalie Martinez and Jason Clarke. Director Paul W.S. Anderson led the production for Universal Pictures, based on a screenplay that he co-wrote with J.F. Lawton.
