The film’s heroine, Katniss Everdeen, portrayed by “X-Men: First Class” and “Winter’s Bone” actress Jennifer Lawrence, is a teenager who volunteers to take her younger sister’s place in a cruel competition of children forced to fight to the death for the amusement of the wealthy and the political gain of the powerful.

THE HUNGER GAMES Completes Filming
Lionsgate today announced the close of principal photography on the highly anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘ runaway bestselling novel The Hunger Games. Lionsgate will release THE HUNGER GAMES on March 23, 2012. The film is the first in a series that Lionsgate is making based on the book trilogy that has become a worldwide phenomenon.
Filmed entirely in North Carolina, the locations spanned from a dense forest in which the arena that hosts the games themselves was created to a town that stood in for Katniss’ home, District 12, to a sound stage that was the platform for the fantastical sights and sounds of The Capitol, the futuristic capital city of the nation of Panem. Principal photography on the 84 day production began on May 23rd.

The film is the first in a trilogy and stars Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland and Lenny Kravitz.

The Hunger Games Casts President Snow
Recently noted for his role as Reverend Monroe in the Civil War drama Cold Mountain and as Mr. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice; he also starred in a TV adaptation of Ken Follett’s novel The Pillars of the Earth and as of May 31st 2011 veteran Donald Sutherland was announced to play President Snow in the film version of the Hunger Games.
U2’s Larry Mullen Jr. Re-made Patrice Leconte’s Man on the Train
THR reveals that Larry Mullen Jr., the drummer of U2, is acting in, producing and composing a remake of Patrice Leconte‘s comic thriller or crime drama, whatsoever, Man On The Train (L’Homme du train).
In fact, film is currently in the late stages of post-production since Production Company has finished shooting in the same period last year and will be selling in Cannes next month.
Irish director/producer Mary McGuckian (The Bridge of San Luis Rey) directed the film and produced with Mullen Jr. and Martin Katz whilst Jon Goodman was an executive.
