Warner Bros. thriller-comedy “Get Smart” is expected to top the box office in North America this weekend as the film takes in estimated 39.1 million dollars over the four-day period, according to preliminary figures released Sunday.

“Get Smart,” starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, is the latest big-screen adaptation of the popular 1960s sitcom about the bumbling U.S. agent Maxwell Smart on a mission to stop a plot by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS.

Nine new images and poster for the upcoming DreamWorks Animation-led sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa have popped up online courtesy of a USA Today feature. The film brings back returning stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter and Sascha Baron Cohen. Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath co-directed.

Spielberg’s DreamWorks to remake ‘Yomigaeri’

A new remake of a Japanese smash hit is in development over at DreamWorks and it’s a horror movie with a sci-fi element, but the horror elements aren’t really scary. Variety is reporting that Yomigaeri, a fantasy based on Shinji Kajio‘s novel has had its rights acquired from Tokyo Broadcasting System by the house that Spielberg built. William Nicholson (“Gladiator“) is writing the screenplay while DreamWorks is eyeing a late 2008 start date.

DreamWorks picks up romantic comedy ‘Shared Fare’

DreamWorks DreamWorks has picked up the romantic comedy spec “Shared Fare” from writer Stacey Harman. Brian Robbins, who is considering directing the film, is producing via his Varsity Pictures banner with Benderspink’s Chris Bender and J.C. Spink.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is known that the idea is based on a true experience had by Benderspink executive Langley Perer, who ended up dating a guy she split a cab with on a short trip.
