Eddie Murphy is Retiring and Not Cast in “Beverly Hills Cop 4″
Eddie Murphy has revealed to ExtraTV that he will be retiring after the release of his latest film “Meet Dave,” which hits theaters on July 11th.
“I have close to 50 movies and it’s like, why am I in the movies?” Murphy told Extra TV, “I’ve done that part now. I’ll go back to the stage and do stand-up.”
Murphy, whose latest film is the upcoming “Meet Dave”, also revealed that at one point plans were put in motion for “Beverly Hills Cop 4“, but that he didn’t want to commit to the project because “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”
The actor said he also wasn’t satisfied with the Cop 3 script, but that they offered him such a large fee to participate that he agreed to take the role: “They said this is how much we’re going to pay you. I said, ‘let’s go shoot it! I don’t care if the script ain’t right.”
He also added that he won’t be involved in the recently announced Beverly Hills Cop IV film because, “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”
Latino Review spoke with Brett Ratner who put his tan smack down on those MTV-bred rumors that “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ would be PG. Evidently this was before Murphy expressed his displeasure with the film’s progress…
“Dont believe everything you read on the internet. Believe me, this is going to be a hard core ‘R’ Beverly Hills Cop. I start shooting next year”
Eddie Murphy to Return in ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4′
Eddie Murphy is to star in ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4′.
The actor approached Paramount Studios with the idea of reprising his role as wise-cracking detective Axel Foley and the project has reportedly been taken on.
‘X-Men‘ director Brett Ratner is to oversee the latest instalment of the hit series, though the search for a writer is still ongoing.
Jerry Bruckheimer - who produced the first three movies - is not involved with the new project, with his duties being taken on by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of ‘Transformers‘ and ‘G.I. Joe‘.
The first ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ film was released in 1984, with the third - and supposedly final - movie coming out in 1994.
The three films collectively grossed $712.9 million.
‘Beverly Hills Cop 4′ is to go into production next year, and a release date of summer 2010 has been pencilled in.
Victoria Beckham famously dubbed Eddie “Beverly Hills c**k” after his treatment of her former Spice Girls bandmate Mel B.
The actor denied he was the father of Mel’s baby daughter, Angel Iris, though DNA tests later proved he was.
Brand New ‘Meet Dave’ and ‘The Wackness’ Posters
Today, we have a two brand new poster: first one for the upcoming Eddie Murphy comedy “Meet Dave,” which is basically a zoomed out look of what was going on in the previous poster. The tagline states: “There’s a whole other world going on inside of him.”
Second poster is for “The Wackness“, which just enjoyed its New York premiere at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this week. “The Wackness” is written and directed by Jonathan Levine, who is also the man behind “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane.” His new movie has already appeared at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
Eddie Murphy In Comic “Meet Dave” Trailer
The trailer for the upcoming Eddie Murphy comedy, “Meet Dave“, has been released, featuring a spaceship being controlled by tiny beings, who are eager to blend into their surroundings.
The story centers on a spaceship that takes the form of a human (Murphy). It’s operated by 100 human-looking, quarter-inch-tall aliens seeking a way to save their planet. Complications ensue when their captain (also played by Murphy) falls in love with an Earth woman who always picks losers to date.
Elizabeth Banks will play Murphy’s love interest. Gabrielle Union and Ed Helms will play crew members of the spaceship. Judah Friedlander will play the engineer of the crew.
The fish-out-of-water comedy re-teams Murphy with his “Norbit” director Brian Robbins and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30th, 2008.

Razzie Awards 2008 : Celebrating The Worst Of The Worst!
Hot on the shoe leather of all those heaving bosoms, over priced dresses and self congratulatory back patting that made up this years Oscars comes a celebration at the other end of the quality scale, and one which we’d all surely have suggested more than a few contenders.
The Razzies, now in it’s 28th year celebrates the biggest bilge to have spewed forth onto our cinema screens over the course of the last year and by crikey, there was plenty of it!
Tempted as I am to take the first trans-Atlantic flight and insist on ‘Resident Evil: Extinction’ being re factored into the line up, it’s poor old Lindsay Lohan who’s stormed the trophy stock this year with her gloriously bad train wreck of a horror, ‘I Know Who Killed Me’. The lass takes three Razzie awards personally while the film itself takes a further five.
Phew! I’ve not seen this myself but I think the safe advice is to avoid like a nest of Aliens!
Here’s the full list and yes, no doubt like you, I can think of another 30 or so that should be on there. Let us know what you think should have been on there via the forum. Read the rest of this entry
Lohan, Murphy lead Razzie nominations
Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy lead the pack in the nominations for the 28th annual Golden Raspberry awards.
The Razzies, which recognise the worst films of the previous year, saw nine nods for Lohan’s thriller I Know Who Killed Me and eight for Murphy’s comedy Norbit.
Both stars played multiple characters in the films and are shortlisted for worst screen couple along with their alter-egos.
Murphy was nominated for worst actor, supporting actress (as Norbit’s wife), supporting actor (Mr Wong) and worst screenplay for co-writing the movie, as well as worst screen couple opposite either of his other roles.
Razzies founder John Wilson explained: “We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations.”
He also blasted I Know Who Killed Me, calling it “the most fabulously brainless movie since Showgirls”.
He added: “By the end of it, you still don’t know what happened. Are they twins or aren’t they? Did she imagine it? Can I please have my hour and 50 minutes back?”
