Edward Zwick who has earned a reputation as a throwback to an earlier era, will next give The Great Wall of China for Legendary East, the first film from the Hong Kong-based company founded by Legendary’s Thomas Tull.
Edward Zwick Directs American Assassin Spy Thriller
CBS Films announced today that Oscar©-winner Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond) is attached to direct the film adaptation of American Assassin from a screenplay by Zwick and Oscar©-nominee Marshall Herskovitz. The film is based on the #1 NY Times best-selling novel by Vince Flynn. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, RED) via di Bonaventura Pictures and Nick Wechsler (The Road, We Own The Night) will produce along with Zwick and Herskovitz.
American Assassin tells the story of legendary CIA agent Mitch Rapp. Long before he began hunting terrorists, Rapp was a gifted college scholar/athlete. Then, tragedy struck and Rapp was recruited into the nation’s most elite covert operations program. After completing training designed to teach the kind of lethal skills necessary to target our most dangerous enemies, here and abroad, he is a man reborn with a mission of retribution.
Love and Other Drugs Review
Love and Other Drugs is about people in the midst of their lives who arrive at somewhere precious by accident. It’s about ambition and commerce, because life is about ambition and commerce, but it soon transmutes into a love story, because life is often that, too. Love becomes, for two people, the great challenge and the great educator, and at every step of this beautiful film, we believe it.
There are a number of things to like about Edward Zwick‘s Love and Other Drugs, so it seems churlish to quibble about the problems.
But those foibles are what keep Zwick’s nervy blend of romantic comedy and drama from being a really good movie, instead of merely a good date destination. The problems aren’t terminal, but they are persistent.
Zwick’s film, which he and cowriter Marshall Herskovitz adapted with Charles Randolph from James Reidy’s book, starts funny, gets funnier, then makes a turn to the serious. The laughs don’t stop entirely, but the tone and the focus have changed in ways that deepen and strengthen the film. 20th Century Fox has released a red band trailer for their upcoming film Love and Other Drugs which stars Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal, Oliver Platt and Hank Azaria.
Synopsis: Maggie (Hathaway) is an alluring free spirit who won’t let anyone – or anything – tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. Maggie and Jamie’s evolving relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love.

In Love and Other Drugs, Anne Hathaway plays Maggie, an alluring free spirit who won’t let anyone – or anything – tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. But this isn’t your typical romance flick, there’s an underlying problem that both characters must face head on, Maggie’s battle with a Parkinson’s disease.

New DEFIANCE Quad Poster
Another poster for the upcoming “Defiance” movie has just debuted over at EmpireOnline featuring shots of Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell.
The film revolves around Jewish brothers (Craig, Schreiber and Bell) living in Nazi-occupied Poland who escape into the Belarussian forest where they join Russian resistance fighters in battling the Nazis. Throughout the war, they build a village inside the forest and save the lives of more than 1,200 Jews. Zwick’s screenplay is based on Nechama Tec’s book “Defiance: The Bielski Partisans.”
“The Soloist” And “Defiance” Moved To 2009
Paramount Picture is moving “The Soloist” starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. from November 21, 2008 to March 13, 2009. So, the movie is without any hope for Academy Awards 2008.
TV spots for “The Soloist” have already aired nationally and trailers had been placed in front of “Eagle Eye.”
“We decided it’s a commercial movie that will play well in the spring, and we’ll give it an aggressive wide release then,” Paramount Pictures vice chairman Rob Moore said.
Studio also moved Edward Zwick‘s “Defiance,” starring Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber, to a 2009 wide release. The film, which was scheduled to open December 12, 2008 will be released on January 16, 2009.
