Peter Jackson has posted a new production video for The Hobbit on his Facebook, highlighting the break in production that occurred after 54 days of shooting. The cast and crew are due back on set September 5th to begin filming on block two.

Mystery solved – Luke Evans will play archer Bard the Bowman in the upcoming Peter Jackson’s movie The Hobbit!

And, if you think that’s all, you’re wrong, because according to the latest reports, Benedict Cumberbatch will also be the part of this project.

Apparently he will voice the dragon Smaug. So, we should now add them to the cast list which already includes Cate Blanchett, Ian McKellan, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis and Stephen Fry.

Warner Bros. New Line Cinema and MGM announced today that Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett has joined the cast of Peter Jackson‘s long awaited two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

Jackson expressed his excitement with having Blanchett back on board:

“Cate is one of my favorite actors to work with and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her reprise the role she so beautifully brought to life in the earlier films.”

Director Guillermo Del Toro Leaves The Hobbit

Guillermo Del ToroIn a statement released to theonering.net, director Guillermo Del Toro has officially announced that he regrettably will not direct J.R.R. Tolkien’s film The Hobbit, though he will stay on as co-writer, due to several production delays related MGM’s sale.

Right now, Del Toro’s already spent two years preparing the films for shooting, but with no start date in sight, it’s possible he could be waiting for another year or even two years before they’re ready to shoot.
