Twixt

Here’s the fist trailer for Francis Ford Coppola‘s upcoming horror thriller “Twixt“.

Starring Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern,  Bruce Dern, Ben Chaplin and Elle Fanning, the trailer introduces the plot in a rather interesting way. The film follows a writer Hall Baltimore (Kilmer) whose career is in a deep slump. Our protagonist arrives in a small town on a book tour only to get drawn into a murder involving a young girl. Where some see tragedy, the author sees an opportunity to finally get back on top with a novelization of the murder that he is currently woven himself into in real life.

Filmmakers About Filmmaking

Director's Chair | Filmmakers About FilmmakingWhat’s the last movie you’ve watched guys?

This report will have to do a lot with all those great filmmakers that make us film-freaks, or, should I say – filmophiles? But, let me just ask you one more thing. Have you ever dreamed of making your own movie? And if you have, who’s your favorite filmmaker?

Scorsese, Cameron, Kubrick maybe? What words or advice would you want to hear from your favorite helmer?

So, what’s the best advice you can get about the whole thing?

“Anybody can direct a picture once they know the fundamentals. Directing is not a mystery, it’s not an art. The main thing about directing is: photograph the people’s eyes.” That’s exactly what John Ford, man who made some of the most iconic American westerns of all time has to say about his work.

On the other hand, Stanley Kubrick thinks that “…a film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.” That’s an interesting one, you must admit, although I’m not quite sure if that worked out for his A Clockwork Orange. I mean, that one looks well-planned from the beginning.

Coppola to shoot ‘Tetro’ in Argentina with Gallo and Bardem

By Fiona | Mar 10, 2008 | Movie News (0) Comment

“After a while I realized that I was getting further and further away from what my original intentions had been.
So at this age I decided, ‘Well, why don’t I make the kinds of films I wanted to do when I was 18? I’ll just do it later in life.’”

The 68-year-old Francis Ford Coppola explains in an interview with The Associated Press.

The five-time Oscar winner, best known for “The Godfather” trilogy about the Corleone mafia family, is preparing to shoot a film about a much different, but equally dysfunctional, Italian-immigrant clan.

Tetro,” for which Coppola wrote an original screenplay, follows two sons of a great but monstrously self-absorbed orchestra conductor in contemporary Argentina.

Much of the film will be shot in La Boca (Argentina), a neighborhood marked by the legacy of poor Italian immigrants who arrived by the shiploads in the early 20th century.

Researching his tale, Coppola discovered many parallels between Buenos Aires and the New York he grew up in.

“Italian families emigrated to Argentina and the United States, and very often brothers in the same family would go two different directions,” Coppola explains, relaxing in the courtyard of his new home and studio, which comes complete with the steel barbecue grill no self-respecting Argentine would do without.

The Return of Francis Ford Coppola!

By Allan Ford | Dec 12, 2007 | Movie News (0) Comment

Francis Ford Coppola It’s been ten years since legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola graced the silver screen after helming some true film classics like “The Godfather” trilogy and Apocalypse Now, but his new film Youth Without Youth might seem like a daring move and possibly the least commercial film of Coppola’s long career. Based on the metaphysical writings of Romanian philosopher Mircea Eliade, the film follows Tim Roth as 70-year-old linguistics professor Dominic Matei, a man haunted by his lost love Lara while languishing in Bucharest, and after being struck by lightning, he goes through a process of rejuvenation that reverts his body back to that of a 40-year-old. Things get even more interesting when he meets the beautiful Veronica (Alexandra Maria Lara from Downfall) who is the spitting image of his ex and channels an ancient spirit named “Rupini” while speaking in ancient tongues. (It’s probably mind-blowing stuff for those who are able to get it.)

ile Coppola’s production on the film traversed the globe from Romania to Geneva to Malta and India, ComingSoon.net had a chance to grab some time with Mr. Coppola during a stop in New York, before he returned to South America to continue filming his next movie Tetro.
