Funny New “Fanboys” Poster
Another poster for the upcoming “Fanboys” movie has just debuted over at Cinematical, showing a fan wearing a Darth Vader helmet.
In the movie, a group of friends who are avid Star Wars fans travel west to see the Holly Grail of all sci-fi movies, “Star Wars: Episode I.” The year is 1999 and for these death star dorks, the Star Wars films are more than just movies; they are a way of life. So, after one of the group takes sick it is nothing short of a moral imperative that the friends break into George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch to watch the seminal sci-fi picture together before its release. Enlisting the help of an estranged friend, who has traded in his Darth Vader mask for a proper day job, the adventure lays way to some extremely funny situations, including an outrageous brawl with some hard-core Trekkies.
“Fanboys” directed by Kyle Newman, stars Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel, Kristen Bell, Chris Marquette and Sam Huntington. The Weinstein Company originally scheduled Fanboys for release a few years back but kept delaying it due to test screening complaints and other issues. It looks like the flick will finally hit theaters February 6, 2009. Read the rest of this entry
Indiana Jones 5 is in The Works !?
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Harrison Ford revealed that George Lucas is currently thinking up ideas for a “Indiana Jones 5.” Since “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” made $770 million worldwide, it should be no surprise that a fifth film is in the works.
Apparently George Lucas is already hard at work on coming up with a story for a fifth film. Ford says,
“It’s crazy but great… George is in think mode right now.”
Ford added,
“It’s automatic, really, we did well with the last one and with that having done well and been a positive experience, it’s not surprising that some people want to do it again.”
He also chimed in on the success of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and how that was a bit of a surprise.
“It was never a lead-pipe cinch,” Ford said. “It was a calculated business risk but I believe it paid off. I was somewhat surprised and gratified to see it did the business that it did. It was successful in almost every market. The first time we showed it to a disinterested outside audience was at Cannes. That’s a crap shoot of the first order. Not only is that audience sophisticated and film-knowledgable, it’s French! And it’s their country and their festival and we somewhat expected to be seriously slapped around. But we were not, we were embraced…it was very gratifying.”
Ford said that he would not be interested in making an animated “Indiana Jones” film, a notion that became at least a possible option after Lucas took his “Star Wars” theatrical saga into the computer-generated realm with “The Clone Wars” this summer.

George Lucas on Indiana Jones 5!
Fox News caught up with George Lucas at the Cannes Film Festival who revealed there’s more than a strong possibility there will be a fifth “Indiana Jones” movie.
He says that he and director Steven Spielberg have left the door open for a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
“I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,” he told. “But I have an idea to make Shia LaBeouf the lead character next time and have Harrison Ford come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.
“And it’s not like Harrison is even old. I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me.”
Lucas says he’s not concerned about early mixed buzz on “Crystal Skull.”
“This movie is the exact same experience as the other three were. The difference is, the novelty of discovery is gone. I get worried when I hear fans say they’re expecting something different that will change their lives. This is ‘Indiana Jones’ just as you remember him.”
“But these movies, the ‘Indiana Jones’ ones, were never big hits right away. They were always slow starters that built up to big numbers,” Lucas said.
Hollywood and Cannes Film Festival
Clint Eastwood’s film “The Changeling“, starring Angelina Jolie as a woman searching for her missing son in 1920s Los Angeles and “Synechdoche, New York,” screenwriter Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut.joins a competition list.
Steven Soderbergh, who took the top Cannes award in 1989 for “Sex, Lies and Videotape“, won a race against time to complete his four-hour epic “Che“, on the life of the revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara in time for the festival.
Steven Soderbergh’s inclusion looks like a last-minute decision. He competes with two pic ”Che” bio - “The Argentine” and “Guerrilla”
As predicted, Steven Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” world preems down on the Croisette, possibly on Sunday May 18. It promises this fest’s must-attend, highest-glam event.
Thierry Fremaux, the festival’s head said the presence of Steven Spielberg and the stars of “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, which will premiere outside the main competition, would ensure “a magnificent red carpet”.
Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett and George Lucas are expected to join Spielberg on the steps outside the Palais des Festivals, guaranteeing the kinds of flashing cameras that add essential glamour to the festival’s arthouse fare.
Out-of-competition, DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda,” an adventure, comedic chop-soc tooner, promises another Hollywood red-carpet cavalcade.
Also non-competing, as is Woody Allen’s custom, is the Spain-shot “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”
After its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, the Hollywood satire “What Just Happened?” will get a second chance at Cannes - closing night, but we are not sure yet because organizers said they would announce the movies that open and close the festival in a few days.
Robert De Niro stars an embattled Hollywood producer whose life falls apart during one turbulent week. In a life-imitating-art turn, the film’s climactic scene takes place at the Cannes Film Festival, with the producer’s fictional movie-within-a-movie opening the event.
“What Just Happened?” also stars Catherine Keener as a tough-as-nails studio chief and features a number of stars, including Sean Penn and Bruce Willis, playing themselves in self-parodying roles. Barry Levinson directs from an adaptation of “Into the Wild” producer Art Linson’s memoir.
The film generated strong buzz going into January’s Sundance Film Festival, and was expected to sell for a significant seven-figure sum. But the movie received a mixed critical.
