George Lucas on “Indiana Jones 5″
Times Online interviewed George Lucas and he had some interesting things to say about The Clone Wars and Indiana Jones 5, and much more.

“It’s completely separate from the Star Wars films,” he explains. “The Clone Wars has all of the characters everybody knows - from Yoda to Anakin to Mace Windu to Obi-Wan - they’re all there. The live-action series, meanwhile, has nobody there, because it’s after Episode III, so everybody’s dead, basically, or hiding somewhere. You hear about the emperor, just like you do in Episode IV, but it’s mostly about a whole different world. I mean, there are a million stories in the big city - you’ve only seen one of them.”
George Lucas Not Directing “Red Tails”
George Lucas’s production company has denied rumours that he will directing his first non-Star Wars movie in 35 years “Red Tails“.
The clarification comes via David Cohen, posting on Anne Thompson’s blog. He relates the following facts received from Lucasfilm: the only people on board so far are Lucas, producers Rick McCallum and Charles Floyd Johnson and screenwriter John Ridley. There is no distributor, no financing yet. And while Lucas is not going to direct the project, neither is Steven Spielberg, who apparently is not interested.
The film, which is currently in pre-production, tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen who battled racism while escorting thousands of US bombers in World War II.
John Ridley, whose previous writing credits include TV shows Barbershop and Third Watch, is working on the script.
The movie is scheduled to begin filming by the end of this year or early next year.
Lucas Plays Down ‘Indiana Jones’ Hopes
George Lucas has said that he expects people to be disappointed by the new Indiana Jones movie. The director said that fans’ hopes the film might be a “Second Coming” are impossible to completely satisfy.
He told USA Today:
When you do a movie like this, a sequel that’s very, very anticipated, people anticipate ultimately that it’s going to be the Second Coming.
And it’s not. It’s just a movie. Just like the other movies. You probably have fond memories of the other movies. But if you went back and looked at them, they might not hold up the same way your memory holds up.
Lucas admitted his experience of returning to the Star Wars franchise means he is prepared for people to be underwhelmed by the project.
He said: “When people approach the new [Indiana Jones], much like they did with Phantom Menace, they have a tendency to be a little harder on it.
“You’re not going to get a lot of accolades doing a movie like this. All you can do is lose.”
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is released on May 22.
George Lucas on ‘Star Wars’, Indiana Jones
At last week’s ShoWest convention in Las Vegas, George Lucas took the stage to introduce the movie industry to his latest Star Wars creation, the animated summer flick Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The feature film (which opens Aug. 15) builds upon the Clone Wars shows that have aired on the Cartoon Network; the footage Lucas presented included glimpses of familiar characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, C-3PO, and R2-D2, as well as more talk of Jabba the Hutt. All the while, naturally, Lucas was flanked by a platoon of stormtroopers - ”I never go anywhere without my army,” he quipped. But does the Jedi master expect to ever retire his Star Wars soldiers? What’s going on with that live-action TV series he announced, anyway? How excited is he for the debut of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? What’s the status of his longtime promise to direct artier films? And which movie prompted him to say, ”I wish I had made it - I don’t think I’m talented enough to do that”?…
